having your cl broken into - how'd they do it?

This happened to me 2 weeks ago and has happened to a few customers of mine. Their Acura is broken into and there is no sign of a break in. If anyone saw the movie 'Ghost Dog' he uses an electronic 'sniffer' to find the code to open and steal cars. Has anyone heard of this? Are Acura remotes rolling code? I think I was told they are not.

Where do you guys live because I don't want to live there. We have horrible crime here, but I think they're too dumb to figure something like this out.

damn! i thought it was bad enough just getting your headlights jacked as in the thread in the 2G main forum. but your car stolen with such ease is scarier.

It was weird, I have my trunk button disabled but they broke my cargo box and stole some maps! My customers have had their manuals stolen. I live in San Francisco.

Whats crime?

The only crime to cars where I live is people putting park benchs on their trunks for spoilers.

Oh and I don't think we have rolling codes in our remotes. Its too easy to program a new remote for it to be a rolling code.

i locked my keys in my trunk once, its very easy to open the CL... you just use a a wedge in the top right window (drivers side) or top left window (passenger side), you will see this gives a nice big space and then just use a coat hangar or something to push the button for the locks.

Sorry your car got broken into. Seems kind of weird that they'd only steal maps though.

If you forget to lock the doors when you get out or with the remote, they don't automatically lock, at least mine doesn't. This could just be people watching and seeing that the cars are left unlocked.

I'm pretty good about remembering to do that. I always make sure I hear the little confirmation beep. I lock my doors even if I'm running into some place for a min. I don't think this really matters though if people can just pop the hood, unplug the battery, and pry open the windows.

I know this...

You can get your key cut anywhere like a hardware store. I've noticed even with just a regular cut key you can open the locks on the doors without the alarm going off. It won't start the car. You'll hear it kind of turn over. I'm thinking they are usually regular cut keys and somehow hotwiring it once inside.

Thats interesting I always thought that a regular key wouldn't open it. Honda made cars have always had security issues thats why they are consistently in the top 10 stolen vehicles. I guess I'm just glad that I've never had a problem (not on wood).

Hahaha, I think I'll pass on that offer. I'm at school right now in Santa Cruz, but I'm usually around the inner richmond and sunset areas visiting friends when I go home.

Richmond is where my customer's Acuras were broken into. A TL and a TSX.

Maybe my car was broken into by a gang of cartographers.

Its very common here in nj where theives target newer purchashed vehicles. The owners manual are left in the glove with the spare key, valet key and key code tag. The theives either steel the car at the same time or come back for it later.

I believe it though.

They might forget or not realize it. i know someone who bought an 04' TL when they first came out and left the owners manual in the glove compartment for months before realizing it.

well i live in union city , ca about 25 min away. there were a lot of honda/ acura cars stolen in the area. i put a post up about it. they took my bro's car and my girls's car right off the drive way both had stock alarms. couple of possibilities is a master key, prolly just used a tow truck and just picked your car off the ground and did the dirty work in a garage.

I live in San Francisco (Noe Valley) My 2001 CL has been broken into 4 times in the last 2 months. I dont believe the alarm sounded at all. (no broken windows of evidence of frocec entry) Thievs either have my remote code, or my valet key. This last time they brolke into glove box and released the trunk (and stole stuff). I dont know what to do: get new remote?, have doors rekeyed(expensive?) or put another alarm in. any advice

If you are sure they are using some sort of key to get in, then that is a problem. An alarm is probably a good choice. Tell your insurance too and it might help. I dont remember how well they worked, but my friend had a remote which would page him which part of the car was being tampered with, alarm on alert, etc..
If you know when someone is taking your shit, you can at least call the cops while their busy. Or you can handle it your own way, but thats risky and you got to be cautious.. dont want to get killed for my acura!

I got my driver window smashed in the other night, stole my change in the coin tray. Lesson learned. I now leave the coin tray open and empty every night when I park in the driveway

Angry

The first time, they tried to punch my door lock but couldn't peel off the area round the handle. They didn't get in. The second time, they tired the same thing. They also tired to put something hot down through my window seal, the detective said it was melted. The also said though the bottom of the door, they tired to force something there. But after all that failed, they just smashed my rear quater panel window and made off with $900 worth of stereo equipment. This happened a week ago, I won't get my car back for another week.
