Haven for Morons

Has this place become a haven for morons??

It seems that the self-interest level has certainly exceeded the subject vehicle discussion level.

Do people really need a place to BS to help their own existence and apparently this is a support group for this behavior.

I say this because the lack of rational discussion has diminished. It has become an area of senseless argument without any reasonable backing. Kind of typical of many people I meet today...

Just trying and waiting to get shut out... But if not, please think about what you say and post. I can catch you years later....

Very true...

I should have worded it as "the lack of vehicle" or similar discussion... However, the topic its self doesn't fit the mentioned criteria!!! Sorry!!!

Its all the newbies. For a long time there was a core of members that went from honda-acura.net to acura-tl.com's CL board to here. Then all of a sudden a couple of months ago there was an explosion of new members. Now we have a lot of people who drop in, spout off some BS, insult some members, and vanish. Kind of like the people who used their AOL 10 free hours to flame the usenet, then simply cancel the account and wait for the next disk with a new screen name to arrive in the mail.

I certainly agree. I see a lot of screen names that I know from a year ago or so, who may or may not be die-hard enthusiats but have an honest interest in the vehicle.

Although this is an open forum, I do feel that it is too open at some time. But then again I am used to some moderated listerv's.

Hey, now...easy on the newbies. I happen to be a newbie to this site, but my CL is my fourth Acura. I've had a 93 Integra RS, a 95 GS-R, a 98 GS-R, now my 01 CLS. I have tried to be helpful and give information to people and have only posted questions about the car that have me vexed. I agree that bullshit replies and insults don't belong here, but it's not ALL the newbies!!!

Well, it's inevitable that the site will diminish a bit over time because there will be less and less that has not been discussed previously. I mean, when the CL first came out the interest in technical issues etc was incredible. However, over time as many of the questions have been answered, there is less technical discussion. Plus, b/c our aftermarket is so limited, discussion on that has stopped as well since, at least for the time being, we have sorta maxed out what we can do with our cars.

I don't mind the moronic talk too much--hell, some of it even makes me laugh. But, it would be nice if some of it were tempered and a bit more mature. Judging by some of the posts I've read we must have an awful lot of members of very young age whose parents bought them their cars.

When I was a young buck there was't computers
to learn on like today. I had to learn from books, friends, and on my own. I've built racing engines,no big deal but I still have alot to learn and this forum and others have helped me alot.It even helped me to pick out and buy my car! I think alot of young people who don't have very much experience come to these forums and learn what they can from others of us "expects" that can help make sound decisions about they're cars!
Welcome to the serious newbies that really
care to learn and good luck!

Once upon a time we were all newbies, and we have to show some tolerance for simple questions. But, there does seem to be a lot of youth (who probably don't own a car) that spit out a lot of nonsense. I'm wondering if that has anything to do with our female members not posting as often as they used to?

Well, the way I see it (being a newbie) is that as long as you add to the thread in as intelligent a fashion you can, and don't just mindlessly reply to the topic, it shouldn't matter if you were an auto mechanic in a previous life. The biggest thing I've ever installed on a car is a starter in my '85 Celica GTS - but I would at least hope that I have something to add that someone else doesn't.

I have to agree with autox-CL-er...I'm a complete newbie to this board, but I do try to make sure what I am posting is not wasting other people's time. Also, this is not my first Acura either...I joined this board to learn more about my car from all of you veterans. Unfortunate that we have to sift through all of the shxt, though.

Most of the newbie's are just trying to compete against the postwhores in raising their post count. I say take a stand in the amount of postwhoring and start running it like a nazi board similar to Hybrid. They don't put up with the kind of useless crap that is discussed here. People are way to worried about their freakin post count, I say take it away or make it harder to postwhore. Something like putting a 30sec limit on the time you can reply to a thread.

Don't be hard on the "newbies". We were all newbies once and I still am on a number of forums. Make everyone feel wanted and the BS stops. Flame them senselessly and watch everyone's adrenaline level go up. No one here has a lock on the topic levels here. Some are good and some are not so good (notice I didn't say bad). A lot of good information passes between buds here and I have made a few on-line friends here. Keep the newbies coming. ONe day soon, they'll be the seasoned vets. The outside world says this forum is too geekish or performance oriented. We should take that as opportunity to look at ourselves from afar and see what we think. Our common thread here is the love of cars. Not all own Acuras or even Hondas. All should be welcome.
