There is also the old issue regarding customer service issues. I've been told that for every single response, there are probably five to ten people that are not spending the time to "complain" (or respond).

While this is not completely analogous, it does make me wonder about the robustness of the transmission and the possible number of non-forum people with problems.

AS a note, I have never been able to get any of the Engine Mod makers to comment on the transmission reliability (make whatever you want of this) and my tranny is still OK (knock on fake wood)

Comment:

I'm still puzzled by the ability (or claim) of Level-10 to upgrade the clutch packs, etc (BUT NOT the gears) to allow the transmission to take 500HP/400lb-ft of torque?

The Acura transmission issue reminds me of Bose installing 2-cent caps (in lieu) of 20-cent ones to keep their sound systems running forever. (The Nissan people wanted 300+ bucks per amp and speaker, but at least they made sure the caps would fail just after warranty!)

sorry...

if you just leave a statement like that hanging out there, it'll become part of the lore of the acura transmission problem, and eventually we'll see something on cnn or someplace talking about how 1 in 5 acuras suffer catastrophic failure and kill people or some crap like that. worst of all, I'll have to suffer through innumerable threads citing this "statistic" and read dozens of fatalistic, defeatist postings by people who don't really know what the hell they're angry about but will take it out on the cars, acura, and the dealers when given the opportunity.

but I'm not bitter or anything.

My friend, if you had ever staudied the statistics, you will know that the "sample population" has to be complitly random. Most of the people whose tranny works fine will not even vote in this poll. Why should they? Their tranny works fine, and they are not so concerned with the issue.
I would suggest to administrators to make this question mandatory for EVERY member on this board, then we could make more send out of the stats.
Good points. Even the thread title is misleading "Has your transmission failed ? " People with no problems may not even read this thread.

When the engin is cold it does shift funny till its warmed up...its supposed to do that. I think it might say something about it in the owners manual.

DEALER TO INSTALL TRANNY # 3

You guys aren't going to believe this...... I FINALLY got my car back after being gone to the dealership for 32 days.....
Well I had it for about an hour atleast......
I drove to my friends house and everything seemed fine....
then about an hour later we decided to leave.....
I GOT 2 BLOCKS FROM HIS HOUSE AND THE SECOND TRANNY FAILED!!!!!
I had put LESS then 10 miles on the car and they were all less then 35mph (residental streets)

The car is now at the dealership AGAIN....!
They now say that they are going to replace TRANNY #2 and ALSO replace the computer for my car.......
WTF is wrong with ACURA...?

You spend 30K for a car that falls apart like a hyundai...
I'm going to create a new post regarding Acura lack of product QA I also have an attorney now and am pursuing a legal course of restitution for all of the time and headache they have caused me.... I'm done with my CL-S and Acura

Both highway and stop and go city driving.

started to go at about 14k

I don't drive the car hard. Though I have gotten on it a few times.
