Has anyone tried using another intake with the sc???

flame me all u want, but i'm of the opinnion that the intake i got performs just as well as the Icebox (it's an old intake u can't get anymore, so just figure it's like an AEM)...the proof i have is of the races Lou and i had last year

i know the sc is more of a kit, but i was just curious if it was possible anyway to switch it up

Haven't tried it but you could or even fabricate a new one. However, the differences would be marginal.

I have considered changing out the foam filter provided by Comptech for a K&N unit. I just have been partial to K&N over the foam filters for no particular reason. I just need to determine which one would fit...

Why do you have to?? And what is the difference, both extend out of the engine bay to get their air??

it won't make enough difference to matter most likely

the races between you and lou weren't won by you because of the intake. Sometimes cars are just faster then their identical counter parts. Maybe someone was shifting faster then the other. At the most you probably had 8 more HP then him, not enough to make much of a difference.

he had icebox, i had xephyr...and we were both in auto's (this was back when he had the black auto)...and there was no clear winner...we were pretty much neck in neck in all 3 races

I plan on getting the icebox in the near future and supercharger when my warrenty is up so I asked comptech if later I could buy the kit without the icebox because I would already have it. The guy said no because its not the same icebox.

So your intake might be comparable to the N/A icebox, but it might be diffrent from the one supplied with the kit.

I thought of this too... I am sure it is the standard size filter that comes with the other Cold air intakes... besides, I don't think you would need to clean the K&N every oil change like you do the Foam filter in the icebox..

correct me if I am wrong in thinking this!

The filter outlet is about 4" - 5" diamter so it isn't the same as other kits. But I am sure there is a standard K&N which would fit.

I've been thinking about getting the Icebox and prefer the K&N filters over the foam as well.

If anyone finds a K&N that works, please post the filter number.

I was planning on opening up the box any day now and will post the proper K&N filter to fit.
