Has anyone heard of problems with Citco gasoline?

It is about 11 cents cheaper for supreme, but I am a dedicated Exxon custromer. I am feeling the gas sqeeze now between the CL, Dually, and Boat.

I am considering switching on the principal alone. I feel if Citco can offer cheaper gas so can everyone else.

That's about all I use. The 1 station I go to always has it for at least 10 cents cheaper then anywhere else. I have used all others before & see no difference as long as it's 93.

I believe Citgo is a Venezuelan oil company or something like that. Maybe south american oil is cheaper than middle eastern oil?

I use it constantly and I've never noticed any difference.

I use Chevron, but I'm eyeing the cheaper stuff lately, like Citgo. I had the feeling that 7/11 and convenience store gas was not as good. Why does everything inside the convenience store cost more than a regular store but the gas is cheaper at the convenience store? Must be a reason.
I'm not convinced it is as good as Chevron with techron cleaners or the major brands.
Gas here is hitting $2 for premium now. I got $1.99 yesterday and noticed the sign changed to $2.06 today.

The reason for price difference is very logical. These store works on margins and do not have the ability to buy from the distributor in bulk like big supermarkets, which have warehouses were it can store large purchases of goods, in other words space limitations is the factor. Secondly, gas price at those stations are lower because it does not carry all the marketing like the big companys and it may not use special additives such as Shell, Exxon-Mobil, Chevron and Texaco and other big oil company.

Also it will be logical that oil coming from venezuela or mexico is going to be cheaper compare to the oil coming from the middle east because big part of the price has to do with transportation prices getting it to the USA.

Ever since the 7/11 near my home had water seepage problems in their tanks twice in 8 years, I avoid Citgo like its the plague...I think the second time was not seepage....

The nickname for Citgo around here is SHITgo.

I think there’s a reason for that

This is correct. Citgo is Venezuelan. I use their gas all the time. Never had a problem. If you gas up at a station that is refueling, the odds of getting contaminated fuel are much greater. There is always water and other things in the bottom of the storage tanks. When they refuel, this stirs all this crap up.

Is there a way a consumer can measure octane ratings and the quality of fuel? I use Crown here in MD because they are consistently the cheapest in the area... currently at $1.99 for 93 octane. The Exxon nearby is $2.09 for 93 octane. Shell at $2.09 for 94 octane. At what point does it start to matter, and how could you tell?

Just because you buy a particular brand of gasoline does not mean that it comes from that companies refineries or distribution center.

Most of the independent brands do not own any oil fields or refineries and just buy their gasoline from the major oil companies.

The major oil companies trade product with one another across the country based on convenience. Gasoline is a commodity product and the only difference is the additive which is added when the tanker loads.

The gasoline you buy at an independent station could be Shell, Texaco or Chevron only the additives have been changed.

Octane is tested routinely by the DOT and there should be a sticker on the pump the last time the gas was tested. There have been cases where dealers have dropped regular into the Premium tanks to make a couple of extra bucks but if they get caught they could loose their business license and if they are with a major oil company they would loose the right to sell product under that brand.

Basically all gas is gas and only the additives are different. All gasoline has additives the major brands use a slightly higher quality additives.

The major oil companies charge more becasuse they know the consumer will pay for brand recognition.

I work for a major oil company, but I buy my gas wherever it is convenient.

Um.... $.11???

So if you pump 50 gallons of gas in a month, that equates to $5.50 more???

I'd go were you feel comfortable. Hardly worth getting your panties in a bunch of a supersize meal at McDonalds.

It is not the .11 alone. it is the principal behond it. Here in Houston we are home to Exxon, texaco, chevron, shell, mobil, and phillips. We should not be getting better prices from a company in OK if the products are pretty much identical.

Also I would save about 10.50 a month which is $126 a year. A nice dinner for my woman and me. or 2 days at the lake with the boat.

Also if enough people did it the larger companies would have to conform or starve.

Right?

Seeing as how I live in Miami I asked the same thing, and got the same answer. Its a Venezuelan company. But also Venezuela is the U.S.'s largest oil supplier. So maybe the "buying in bulk, is cheaper" notion applies. Although I do have a problem giving my money to 'borderline communist' Hugo Chavez, I don't have a problem payin about 10 cents less per gallon.
