has anybody else had this happen?

ive got a really strange problem and im anticipating getting some shit from the acura dealership on it. today when i opened my trunk i noticed that the bracket that holds the two torsen bars which support the weight of the trunk and attaches to the center of the underside of the package tray failed. the two spotwelds that hold this bracket to the package tray simply separated from the package tray itself, i have never seen anything like this happen before and its strange to say the least. im going in to have it looked at tomorrow at 4 but they are already acting like im nuts, not to mention that the car has 55k on it so its just barely out of warranty, but i feel like this should be covered under the corrosion warranty because this is a structural integrity issue...idk though im pissed. anybody else heard of weak welds on acuras before?

It's happened to a couple members, including me. I haven't fixed mine yet and it's been broke for over 6 months. Now that it's warm, I'll fix it myself. You just need to drill out holes where the rivets were and bolt the plate up with nuts and bolts.

Been like that for over a year and a half... no big deal. The annoying thing is that it may sometimes rattle when the bass is turned up. If that bothers you, try to wrap the metal bars with some type of foam or a thick sheet.

BTW, it's not corrosion or a structural integrity issue, so it won't be covered by the dealership.

mine did it too. dealere fixed it for free, but i was under warranty. you would have some leverage since you are so close to out of warranty, just be polite and ask to see the manager.

The dealership sent mine to a body shop and they re-welded it and painted it.

There's a TSB (03-015) on it. There's a copy at http://acuramdx.org/forums/attachment.php?postid=250678

Although it says MDX, this applies to CL's and TL's as well.
