Hardwire detector question

I notice a lot of folks have their detectors hardwired. Where are you picking up the power? looks like it might be possible in the fuse box on the right but I can't tell where. it would be easy if I could get to the back of the lighter outlet but I can't figure out how to get the console apart.

Use the windshield wiper fuse. You can also use a fuse splitter, basically you remove the existing fuse, plug in the fuse splitter, plug in the fuse into the fuse splitter & new fuse for your radar, then run the power wire wherever you need it. You can buy this at radio shack, but they're hard to find. I'll take a pic and post it.

It's been a while since I installed my V1 and since I don't own my CL anymore, I can only go my memory. I'm sure someone can verify the following.

In the fuse area, on the back of the cover the fuses are labled??? Or it's in the owner's manual???

Anyway, locate the fuse for the cigarette/cigar lighter. And draw juice from that. It's only hot when the car is on.

Oh and don't forget to find a good grounding source.

Again, more will chime in on this, but I think it's a good palce to start. Good luck.

windshield wiper fuse here...read the diagram on the inside of the plastic cover panel, and it'll show you which fuse is for which

i cut the metal ring off the wire (red wire i believe) then cut enough of the wire cover away exposing the wire itself...fanned out the wire...placed as much wire in the slot for the fuse...stuck fuse back in

black wire i kept intact and attached it to one of the screws mounted to the chassis...believe the screw was at 11:00 and tucked in further by about 8 - 10 inches from the fuse box as yer looking at the fuse box head on

Shawn S has some old install pics when he did the install

Sorry for the poor quality, but this is what I mean. Requires no cutting and can easily be taken out. Just plug 2 fuses, plug-in, use a splice tap or butt connectors to connect the radar detector power wire.

There is a couple available connections on the back of the fuse box. One is constant, the other is ignition. Use it. All you need is a female prong.

I can find the front of the fuse box, how do I get to the back? Do I have to pull the glove box?

Thanks.

I assume you have a 2nd gen CL. Stick your head under the steering wheel and look to your left, you will see the back of the fuse box.

This is how I did mine. If you lay under the steering wheel and look up at the back side of the fuse box, you will see 4 available male prongs, kinda setup like this:
[ ] [ ]
[ ] [ ] <-the right set (closest to front of the car) is hot ALL the time
/\-the left set (closest to the rear of the car) is hot when the ignition is ON.

I am writing this from memory so I might have them flipped. Just plug it in and turn the key. if it turns on you got the right one. But I'm pretty sure I got it right.
