Halogen bulbs for fog lights revisited

I've been reassigned in Westminster, MD, which is about 2.5 hours from home so I took my car with me which means I can do some experimenting again.

Last time I left off with both sets (4 bulbs) of my raybrigs burning, probalby due to the cold and high wattage/crappy quality of the bulbs, so currently I have 16w sylvanias which are working good.

I was at walmart, and found a small halogen bulb, a "Light Bar Bulb", which I have no idea what it is. it's a tad smaller than the stock 5w bulb, but the connector has the same thickness, but I bought one and spread the connectors 1/16" to contact the connectors in the map light (i didn't feel like crawling under my car today). they work.

i'm just weary if the housing can take it as i already had bigger halogens and macgyvered them to the stock housings, which resulted in some dime sized 'melt' spots on the top of the insides of the housings...but these bulbs are much much smaller and would be further from the housing.

if anyone wants to check it out, the bulbs are GE Halogen 2040.

i'm still waiting for fogs from acura for either the '02 tl or cl...if they fit is another matter though.
any thoughts?

mrdeeno,

Did you remove the stock CL-S road lamps? If so how do you remove them?

Thanks,

Spiro

there is a screw that holds the lamps in. it's on the inside side of the lamp...there's a notch on the top part of the outside side of the air damp section and moving further towards the lamp, you'll be able to feel the round part on the lamp and inside that is the screw (phillips).

unscrew that and it hinges on the outside side and pops out.

they look like real halogen fogs (probably the same brightness as raybrigs, but halogen so i'm sure it'll won't burn out as quickly, but it may be too hot for the housing, i'll know tomorrow when i try it out in the housing).

i don't want something to match the hids, i just want something that looks like real foglights rather than markers.
