Smitty-

I am not sure how things could get screwed up by showing more interest...

I emailed Grille-tech before Delerlict posted this thread...My responce came back late in the day and I posted their responce. It is not my job to speak for Grille-tech, if they respond incorrectly to a request that is their fault not mine. I was merley posting thier responce.

You might want to have a bit more cander next time before you post with such an angry responce.

There is a lot of anticipation for these grills so many people are ready to pull the trigger...Just like you!!!

Sweet. If we don't end up going I can always run out to B'more this weekend. I'm only a few miles away.

Also, there may be some adjusting to do still...95% right doesn't cut it for me. I'm going to adjust things if need be & re-submit to Grill Tech before the ball gets rolling too far. I don't want things not fitting right & be bad-mouthed for poor workmanship(this is why I was waiting to post any info).

Frankly, we should be thanking Smitty for his persistence in this matter.

I wasn't condoning that anything less than perfect is good enough for us. The pictures I sent back to Chris Driver indicating which areas I had to trim in order to get the top grille to fit. That's why I said 95%... because I think they still have some slight mods to make on their template. I will be interested to see if your findings are the same with the diamond style grille.

Did you remove the chrome "wings" in the upper grille or does the black just make it impossible to see?

Where did you have problems with fitment(be specific so I know what to look for)?

Lemme send you the email I had sent to Chris Driver... it would best illustrate the process I used to fit the grille. PM me address if you get a chance.

I'm in for the upper and lower on my 01 CL-S. Can't wait to get this going. Since I just got in a wreck, I told the bodyshop to just toss the gutter guard, eventhough they offered to make another one to put in there. I want something with a lot better look and quality, which from the pictures I think I found it...cant wait!

Way better? Looks like plain gutterguard.

There are two different types of grills being made, one with the round pattern, which you've seen, the other with a diamond pattern similar to what you have.

Grille-Tech

Hi all, I am not a CL owner, but my buddy is ysr72champ who owns an '01 Sundance Gold CL-S. I drive a 2002 Maxima and just wanted to share some information that my fellow Maxima buddies have in regards to the Grille-Tech product. This looks really nice on the CL as it does on the Maxima, but what we have found is that after a time, the Grille-Tech products begin to rust especially if you are in an area that snows and the city uses salt on the roads. Typically the rust begins after a few months, but it is not apparent with all who use the Grille-Tech product. Just wanted to give you guys a bit of heads-up on this and hope that what I've mentioned doesn't apply here. Good luck.

Their mass-purchased grill material doesn't appear to be coated as well as the grills we're getting pre-powdercoated.

We have experience with their product, but from my own personal inspection, this new grill material is heavily coated.

I'm currently waiting for Chris French and Kevin Coakley to get back to me with info regarding the grilles. It's a waiting game at this point. It's tough when I have to rely on other people to fit and test the grilles, not to mention we didn't even make the templates. I think they need to be tweaked according to Kevin. I'll let you know what's going on when I find out more.

Thank You
Chris Driver

I think no matter how it's cut, there will still be a bit of trimming to do...just because of the nature of the material...I emailed my findings on the cut area, but the installed pictures don't come out right because my car is white...can't see shit with the black grill. I'll try to take some more snaps anyhow.

Chris Driver has been really busy... I just got an email response from his as well so I guess things have settled down. I'm sending back the front grille that I fitted/cut early this week, and I'm also including my white outer grille trim piece for them to use as a template to check any new modifications to the pattern. The lower grille fits much better now that I saw how Mtbikr did his by angling it to fit the contour of the front lip. I also used 2 extra ties on the vertical pillars to pull the lower ends in more.

I had the same problem Chris3240929, especially with the lower grille. The white is too much of a contrast against the black material to show much detail.

Will keep everyone posted.

The only real trimming I had was on the right hand side...if you had it laying on the front, looking at the grill piece from the rear. Other than that, it was minimal trimming.
