Grille

Whats up guys I have a question about painting the grille for those of you that have done it. I see that a lot of people paint the chrome on the grille black. Do you paint it your self or do you take it somewhere to get painted and if you paint it your self is there a special paint that you need to do this ?

I have done it myself black before a few times. i recently had a body shop paint it silver to match my body color in january. When I painted it myself it chipped pretty fast. When I had my bodyshop paint it, I got 1 chip in the first week of having it on and none since then. If i did it over i would have my shop paint it and then cover it with a small strip of 3m protecive film. Anything that is metal i would recommend getting powdercoated like the metal grille mesh, calipers etc.

paint it yourself, you will need to sand down or scuff the chrome so that the paint sticks to it, but you def don't need to go to a body shop as long as you can spray even coats, as for chipping, clear coat is your friend

clear coat wont stop rock chips thats for sure. I paid 20$ for mine def easier than spending 1 hour or more plus cost of supplies, and youd have to order a color matched spray can to match my silver paint anyway.

I had mine painted professionally. Came out great but still suffered from rock chips.

Basically, it's unevitable IMO.

I had mine done professionally as well. I do a lot of highway driving so I expected rock chips after sometime.

Are you doing just the chrome wings? Are you going for just black?

If so, use Plasti-dip. Its more like a rubberized coating. Its pretty durable, and if the finish beneath the coat is nice and you dont like the coating, you just peel it off like plastic.

i just went and bough the ebay grille for 100 or so i think it was and it's fiberglass with black mesh. mesh doesn't rust or fade. and the grille itself i left the stock black color it comes in cause i knew it'd get chipped up regardless of what i did. so it's been like 8-9 months rocking the ebay grille with zero painting required. this year i'm prolly gonna paint it tho... just cause i got nothing left to do to the car anymore

Thanks for the ideas. I was actually thinking about that grille on ebay but i want the acura symbol. I wonder how it would look if I attached the acura symbol to the middle of the mesh grille.
