Great runs w/ a modded 99+ GT Stang Coupe
well i was suposed to quit racing on the streets but some time u just cant quit....
on my way to work this morning i hear and spot a black gt stang, the stang is weavin n and out of traffic to i follow so we can line up,
we catch a light but a van was in the other lane so i was behind the stang, light turns green and the stang punches it and i do the same like a sec later, i held my distance till 120 since the stang got the go ahead, then later down 8 mile rd we go at it from like a 63ish roll, i was in d4 and slammed it into 2 but it caught 3rd instead of second so the stang got me on that one... she went off on her way while i continued down 8 mile...
then what do u know, on my way back from work heading west on 8 mile rd i line up w/ the stang again, the same girl was in the passenger seat w/ her boyfriend driving....
me: "Didnt i race you this morning?"
stang: yeah that was me.
me: what do u got done to it, gone to the track yet?
stang: all the bolt ons and gears, i take stock vettes
me: i have never lost to a stang
light turns green... i got the jump on him and kept like 1-1.5 cars on him till then middle of secong then we had to stop at another light, i say lets go from a 20 roll, hes like OK, we turn onto grand river and he punched it before 20 and before we even lined up so i followed him and kept 1 car between us till 70ish, then we head onto m5 east and we went from a 60ish roll, once i again i try to get to 2nd but ctach 3rd , i catch up to him later and he gives me props, says he was totally suprised at how fast my car was
i dont think he has ALL the bolt ons or he would have walked me, alls i heard was exhaust, i couldnt tell what else he had done but he told me he had all the bolt ons and 3.?? gears, i forget the exact # on the gears, it was a manual BTW
when i was doin the 3-2 down shifts i think somethin in my car messed up, later on today when i was floorin it, the tachometer needle would sorta stall for a second when the vtec would open up at 4800 rpm
car goes in for warped rotors tommorw so i'll have em look at it

Did he forget to take his parking brake off?
There is ABSOLUTELY no way you should do that to a Mustang, especially with "all the bolt ons" and gears. Was he sleeping when the light turned green?

If you are running 14.2s you should be right there with a slightly modded Stang. I doubt he had all the bolt ons. For the gears, he probably had 3.73s, those work well in 99+ Stangs. Congrats on the kills and deaths, it sounds like you guys had some fun.
Oh, and I thought you said you were done street racing a while back. Who won the pool?

A manual???
I got a lot of love for the CLS, but damn... There are some kills that I just can't swallow.
A stock Mustang has more HP, more torque than a CLS, not too mention RWD. Even with headers on the CLS, a modded MANUAL 99+ GT Rustang should beat a CLS. A 99+ manual GT should trap close 100mph STOCK.
A kill is a kill I guess. I just wouldn't be all that excited about it.

Yeah, but you're modded to the gills with a 6spd. We're talking an auto CLS. I know from driving the 6spd CLS that it's a different beast than the auto.
And the Rustang was supposedly modded. I dunno. I guess I'm just being a pesimist.

IM WITH SCRIB!!.. Our cars are fast and yes we can beat alot of cars but u gotta think logically.. from a roll a mustang would kill us.. lmao torque and not worrying to mess up a rwd launch.. i also find it hard to swallow..
Mustangs tend to trap 98 to 100mph stock and have run 13.9
now this guy had mods with gears and still lost to a car that ran 14.2 once i dont kno.. but hey dont take my word for it

maybe the guy couldnt drive or he dont have ALL the bolt ons, like i said he told me he did, and i believed him cause of the way his exhaist sounded, but no matter how many HP u put in a stang they never really stack up against the competion unless they are driven perfectly, i see modded stangs get walked by stock ls1's

mustang vs. cl-s
being a dedicated previous mustang owner:
67 fastback auto
90 5.0 conv auto
95 gt edlebrock edition built by R&E Racing. 5spd
98 cobra w/4:10 gears SVO racing clutch, jardine exhuast, bbk
intake, motorsport aluminum driveshaft, 2001' k-code transmission. 5spd
2000 mustang gt conv. 5 spd
i can tell you one thing for sure.
all the rustangs had one thing in common. NO TRACTION!
they have very light rear ends especially if you lower them and take away what little weight distribution they have. the 5 spd cars take alot of practice to launch hard. if the driver of any given stock 5spd rustang gets too excited and punches it and drops the clutch at over 3000-4000rpm they will sit there and smoke. a properly luanched cl-s 6spd will have more then enough time to gain momentum and get out front. if the rustang hasn't caught you by the top of second gear don't worry he's most likely not going to. stock they have very little top end (cobras excluded the 32valve v8 has grips of top end)their quarter mile time is heavily dictated by the first 1/8 mile. as the cl-s just starts having fun after the first 1/8 mile. the 96-98 cobras are the wild card. stock they have 305hp w/300ft lb 0-60 in 5.99 1/4 in 13.99@101mph. not really that fast for those hp #'s. but for about $1000.00 (3:73-4:10 gears and x-pipe drop in k&n) you can get that car into the low 13's@ nearly 110 mph. gota love that low-tech power. as for me i won't give up my cl-s unless ford builds the next generation mustang with double wishbones, supercharger an impressive interior 6spd and of course navigation! yeah like that's gonna happen....

mustang gt's are fucking fast...i would never underestimate one...let alone think that i can beat it...i honestly do not think i can even hang with one from either a stand still or from a roll...i posted a story a while back about a race on the freeway with a gt...that sucker wouldn't stop pulling

Evancruze is right...from a stop any stang with gears or enough bolt ons is gonna have some traction issues. From a roll ( if the stang is out of 1st gear) its a different story.
P.S. If any one lives around rt 18 or rt. 1 in NJ I'll be more then happy to demonstrate the traction issues I speak of.

I run at englishtown NJ which is a very fast track and it was 50-55 degrees out on that night. I launch form an idle because I can not slip the clutch with out spinning the tires.
I hope to get the car to the track soon to see what it can do with the addition of the headers and the more agressive Diablo tune I got. I'm shooting for low 13's at 106. xx.
P.S. its not the seats that annoy me its the plastic doors. a 30K car without leather wrapped doors- @!%&

now you got it from a couple of stang guys that know...i whish some people that like to quote peak power numbers would educate themselves alittle on how that really works...the mustangs do make a big peak torque number but they run out real quick not alot of top end like a couple of theses guys have mentioned...i remember back when i had just gotten headers and intake and most important tires...i use to catch shit for saying i beat GT's...now honestly i rearly even give them a look...it's the LS1 that im interested in...anyway also ive mentioned this before before the 350Z had been released someone said ..."next thing you know there'll be i just killed a 350Z thread like that was gonna be unbelievable ...turns out they're not out of reach...then more rescently there was a similar comment on the EVO 8 guess what many of those cars are running high 13's...who else is it impossible for us to beat? maybe ill get it on video for the doubters...sorry for the rant...last note trap speed oe car goes 100 one 103 sounds like a mismatch? if you get the jump you could easily be going 3 mph before he reacts now the 2 cars are even and you're out ...starting to understand how this works?

Evancruz, I was just in R&E racing a few weeks ago, I didn't even know about the huge shop in the back until I went there. They had some incredible street cars there.
As for the Mustang issue, I haven't lost to a stock 99+ one yet, but a mildly modded(I think just exhaust, shifter, intake) 5 speed spanked me good. He ran a 14.5@95 to my 14.8@92. This was at 2700ft. I had him through the 1/8th though.

typeR- by mustangs I take it you mean GT's. The Cobras are basically the exact opposite with no sac down low and all the hp between 4000-6400 rpms.
As for your rant. Track numbers and magazine numbers are two toally different animals and I understand your frustration when people say certain cars are untouchable. I've seen 03 Cobra's run mid 13's @106 , E46 M3's run high 14's @100, Z06 vettes running mid 13's @108mph, and S2000's running 94-96 mph.

So Darrin when you gonna let me run your CLS with my slow GT? I have 315 Nitto drag radials, so I don't have many traction issues like most Mustang guys
But yeah, unless the GT has some sort of power adder the top end isn't that great. Mine dies at 5300 rpm, so that's where I shift. The nice thing is that it makes peak tq at like 3500-4k rpm, so it doesn't need a ton of rpms to go fast.
I'd be interested to see how ours compare before this winter, because next year it's nothing but 12's for me.

no matter what you do it will always feel like it is holding back.
it doesn't matter how much you turn the timing up at the distributer. but of course there is a fix. go to brothersperformance.com and order a free catalog. order a 94-95gt engine computer interface w/computer. you will not recongnize your car. it's worth .3-.5 in the 1/4 mile i shit you not.
it deletes the timing retard and lets you control what temp. the radiator fan comes on. its about $600 +/- , it's basically the engine comp. out of a 88-93 gt w/it's own interface module. check it out.

I know about the A9L fox body computer upgrade. This winter plan on heads/cam/intake/headers & possible 331 stroker kit, so I will never be able to tune it correctly with the stock computer. I do have a custom Autologic chip right now that removes the timing retard on throttle tip-in, but it is just a band-aid for a shitty stock computer program. :o

after 2 nd your're left wondering where did all that pwr go?
even my wife didn't think it was all that fast after 2nd gear.
but i agree with one thing. if the driver knows what he/she is doing from the green light the mustang would put a whoopin on a cl-s 6spd or auto in the 1/4. but not by much. after 60mph cl-s 6spd would kill it.

DarrinB, we gotta get to the track, I wanna see how your badass car runs. We gotta run soon too, cuz I just put down the order for a twin screw Kenne Belle... unless you think that your ride will take out a 390rwhp car... LOL

BTW Darrin me & my dad went ot Milan yesterday and with his bone stock 2000 GT 5 speed we both ran a best of 14.2 @ 98mph. That was with alot of wheelspin too, and crappy 2.27 60's. I'd like to see how your's runs in the heat.
