Got Walked/Ran/Stepped on by a modded 300zx TT

Man I was coming from laurel and was chilling minding my business (insurance is about to be renewed) and this car is flying with four lights coming on my bumper extremely fast! I speed up to avoid impact and the light at ritz camera turns RED! Uh oh, what is this car? Aha a nissan 300zx! I was thinking "Why not? My friend has a non turbo (auto) and i beat him all the time" Little did i know what I was in 4. He revs the z and it sound ridicously different...something seemed odd?! Light turn greens and I floor the hell out of the cls and while paying attention to the road in front, I start seeing tail-lights in front of me. Man..oh..man...he was eating my car up like me racing ex civics. I was embarrassed like shit. He walked me home like a dog on a 2 hr walk. We get to the next light about a mile or 2, and he rolls down the window and asks what mods i had..."I said plugs, filter and cai.." then he started telling me ALL HIS mods upgraded turbo kit, headers, cai, something with the gears..blah blah blah, etc... NEVER AGAIN will I do that!

Later while on my travels I ran into a civic si (laurel is known for them) and I walked this guy home! I felt better but not by much!

stock for stock, a drag race between a 300zx tt and a cl-s would be a good one.

but the question I always ask myself when tempted is:

"when was the last time I saw a stock 300zx tt?!??"

and that usually keeps me from embarrassing myself.

certainly no harm in tryin', though...

Black Racer z!

The z was black with a wing, and instead of the four talepipes he had two LARGE ones, racing rims, and he had a personalized licsense plate. I couldn't tell if he had maryland plates because the frame of the plate said some bs and it covered the state and stickers but it was white.

Those 300ZX's are evil! I test drove one for a friend in West Hills. Fully stock 91 with 120K. It hauled like heck!

I was looking for one a few years back. Could not find anything nice for my price range - back then.

I hear of one in Canyon Country with heavy mods pushing 800HP. 0- 60 in 3.2s, etc. All Stillened out, with defusers and all.

If anyone hears about it, let me know. I'd love to take a look!

Taking a 300X stock, maybe... Modefied, not a chance!

I don't think our cars can handle a stock 300ZX Turbo either. A 1996 stock Z turbo ran 0-60 in 5.1sec. More than a second quicker than our cars.

It's interesting that Nissan claims the 350z will have better performance#'s than ALL previous z car models, even the TT.

Very interesting.

Right now I'm hearing 280 hp and 0-60 5.8 sec.
All this at a 30k price point? Anyone remember the MSRP on the TT the last year it was offered (gasp)?

A fully loaded one maxed out at close to $50K. I was looking into it in 1995, but it was way too expensive for my blood, so I opted for the Maxima.

I only remember seeing low 6 second 0-60 runs published for them in the rags. of course, I may be remembering the na times.

the 300zx tt always seemed to be significantly slower than the rx7, supra and 3000gt in the comparison tests.

but if they are really capable of low 5 second 0-60 runs in stock form, then I agree that the cl-s has no chance.

They are in the 5's!

I know for fact a non-turbo is not in the 5s or probally not even six's with (auto) more like 7s. There weight is almost the same as ours. I rode in a z-tt b4 stick and it did feel like it was in the 5's. CONSIDERABLY faster than a stock cls. We can probally hang with an auto (don't quote me) but, i have never went up against an auto z tt with my cls.

When MT tested the Z Turbo in 1995, they ran 0-60 in 5.5sec and the 1/4 mile in 13.8. That's pretty darn fast if you ask me. It was a 5 spd manual. With 300hp, 283lbs of torque and RWD, that's what should be expected from this car. This car was "light years" ahead of the other cars in it's class in 1995.

you know... the mid-90s were really great times for sports car/gt afficianados.

I still miss the rx7 twin turbo...

Yeah you're right. But you've got to admit, the Z was definitely the sharpest looking one out of all of them.(atleast I think so) The Z was one of the first sports cars to come with slip differential...I don't see why they didn't add it to the rest of the Nissan cars.

I'm partial to the rx7, but the z was definitely high on my list. like the original 240 z, I think both cars have aged pretty well.

I loved those cars as well, especially the Z.

Honestly, I bought the CL-S because they just haven't made any cars like thr Z/Supra/RX7 lately.

I was excited to hear that the Z was coming back but the whole cycle of Nissan not being able to decide on the look or the powertrain kind of makes me wonder how solid its going to be when it finally comes out. It looks like things are pretty much finalized on it now, but if I were in the car market when it came out I would sure as heck not buy it in its first year. I trust Nissan and the engine has a small amount of history, but I just have this feeling that the 350Z is going to be plagued by gremlins in its first incrnation.

Yep, those days were great when all of the companies had their big brothers (300Z TT, Supra TT, RX7 TT) and their little brothers(240SX, Eclipse/Talon/laser turbos, prelude). There were a lot of good looking cars out there and a lot of performace as well. The last gen. Mitsubishis were really sweet--packing a turbo and all-wheel drive into a tiny sports coupe. Now, those guys had balls. Today everything is very conservative in the performance arena and very iffy in the styling arena.

No way. A 300ZX Turbo would dust the CL-S, I used to own a '91 Turbo. It was tested by Car & Driver twice at 0-60mph in 5.0 sec and 1/4mi in 13.7 at 102mph in 1991 and 1992. The RX-7 Turbo was cool, my friend still has one- a 1994. I drove it and it doesn't 'feel' as fast as my Z, probably cause of less torque, but it's handling is awesome. Much too cramped though, I think I'd be afraid to drive it daily- an accident on the hiway and your dead for sure!
The Z's were very cheap to modify, too. $1,200 buys boost jets, exhaust, and ECU- good for 400hp. Pretty cheap.
Mitsu 3000GT was the worst of these cars- much too heavy, handling suffered and far more reliability problems. Plus Z had one of the best interiors of any car and t-tops- fun.
