got stuck in 3rd gear

Last night, on my way home from work, I got stuck in 3rd gear. I was using sport shift and tried to upshift to 4th about ten times. Put it back in D5 and it still wouldn't upshift. Finally, I put in N and waited for the RPMs to drop to idle. Put it back in D5 and it was fine. Anyone else have this happen?

First symptoms of a another dead transmission.
Take it to the dealer and pre-order a new transmission.

It will fail within the next few miles. That's EXACTLY what mine did. Stuck in third on the way home. Bye bye tranny the next morning.

I don't drive my car very hard but I am worried about all these failed transmissions. Are you guys doing neutral drops or something that would lead to all these problems? I'd brag on my car all the time and would hate to see someone go out and buy one and then have the transmission fail.

By hard I don't mean just red-lining but more abusive stuff.

Plenty of questions/answers, questionnaires, surveys, rumours, and mini-Jihads have flooded the board *and* there are people reporting that drove "nicely"/"grandma-like" and had the tranny bite the big one...

As far as finding people doing stuff, they should just never do -- I would hope common sense would tell people to stop the car when moving from N-to-D5, N-to-R, and P-to-whatever. (Acura does mention not moving in Park-to-X situations...)

A trip to the search engine here and on the TL board would probably tell you more than you ever wanted to know about this...

I'm not trying to dissuade you from asking about abusive practices, just that it is *not* at the "root" of the problem.

-- My opinions only (feel free to disagree) --

This is getting worse by the day ... they are dropping like flies. I think I am gonna get the 6-speed if not for any other reason to get away from the one potentially major problem that this car will ever have!

Then you'll only have to worry about the actuator (I lost two, but I really believe they have fixed this problem) and the front rotors warping.

Honestly, I wouldn't be such a fucking piss bag if my tranny didn't go ON TOP of the actuators and shitty brakes. I NEVER gave a shit about the stupid rattles and squeeks that a vast majority complain about. That's all minor compared to real problems that some (not all) of us have experienced.

If you like the car, and it moves you, get it.

Hrmmm, Over a year and a half ago (which was reported on the other board) I jumped on I-75 from Delk Road and had the transaxle stick in 2nd. It took putting it in neutral, hitting redline once and then when the revs dropped putting back in gear.

No problem since. If it doesn't happen more than once I chalk it up to chance and the need for a re-boot...
