Got Smoked by a G35c

Rolling down the freeway minding my own business, some jackass cuts me off. Low and behold, a G35c lookin for trouble.

We eventally get to some open road. I pull up along side of him, give him the thumbsup, and notice his girl in the car. He takes off before I realized he would, so he gets the jump on me. We start from about ~70 mph, so I'm at the bottom of 3rd. I nail it when he is about a half car ahead. I'm steadily losing ground. We shut it down a about 120. He was roughly 2 cars ahead of me when we shut it down.

There was too much traffic to do anything else. I pull up along side of him and ask if it was a 6 speed, wth a grin from Texas to Mississippi, he replies "Yes!" Give him the thumbsup and go on my merry way.

If only my bottle wasn't empty.

Nice run Mantis.

Not bad to stay 2 cars back of a 6mt after he got the jump.

the cl-s has a nice third gear pull with vtec, but i have to say the g35 has top end like a mofo auto or 6psd. my cousins auto traps 98 99 mph bone stock.. my car trapped at 96 and a 14.4.. it just shows his car is pulling away top end, we have to face it the g35 is just a faster car.. its like racing a 350z. auto for auto theres really no difference..

mantis, i think you should of had a chance with the g35. i know i can take them easily (even a 6sp) especially if its a third gear run. we hit 6k rpm in 3rd when the g is forced to shift to 4th, which gives the auto tls/cls the easy pull away.
maybe he was modified and just didnt say anything?

I don't know why you people think you can just walk over a 6mt G35 coupe. It's not like the car is slow or anything.

And power3dfx... 4th in my car pulls HARD at the time of shift; around 90mph... So I dunno what you're talking about.

Look. I understand this is a CL board and everyone wants to stand up for their car. That's fine and I encourage it. But some of you really need to take a step back. At least Mantis spoke the truth. He lost. Sounds to me even if they left together, the outcome would have been similar since the G was pulling on him. Props to the man for being honest.

Unless you're blown, you'll have a hard time beating one, ALL things the same. And until I see the chips, emanages, etc. really make a difference, I'm going to sit on the fence on this one.

Most of you have put thousands into your car to get it to the time the G runs stock. Give me $1000+, I'll put mods on my car and we'll run. Fair, right?

Uh....G35s give me a handful my friend, especially on the top end. You are running about a half second behind me(I ran a 14.3@95 on Sat, 2700ft elevation)...I think a well driven G35 would own you. Sorry, I'm not trying to flame, just trying to keep the thread in reality. G35s are very quick!!!

I race my co workers auto G35 sedan all the time and I always win. We have gone from a 20 punch and a 55 punch. With me winning by a car or more everytime.

Is the sedan an auto? What are your mods?

We're talking a coupe 6mt here... Different beast.

Even without F/I, Allmotor isn't even remotely close to stock. Tuning, tweaking, headers, etc... And the dude can drive... I'd like to see what he could pull in a stock 6mt G. $100 he could get into the 13s.

And didn't mantis not gain ne horse last time he dynoed w/o nitrous and he had some extra mods?

Black CL-S 4-Life - You have headers according to your sig??? And you raced, what I'm going to assume is an auto sedan???

So... Two cars that have the same HP, and you add some headers... Hardly a good comparison, IMHO.

Yeah, stock G35 6MT will take stock CLS-6 anytime since power under the curve and RWD has advantage. The outcome could be in either favor, however due to added mods.

hmm.. maybe i made it sound like it was a piece of cake. the point is i take either a g35c auto by 4-5 cars or a 6 speed by at least 1.5 cars or more (depends on shifting)

The 6 speed i am running, i have lighter brakes so maybe that helps.
I never said they are not fast cars, just that I, and I repeat I, can BEAT my friends 6sp g35C everytime. I dont know about everyone else here, but so far ive had vids of the cars that most would think i couldnt beat so that no one could come out and say i was lying.

Do i need to get a vid of me vs. the 6sp. g to prove i can beat him and im not lying? The boxster s i beat was much harder to do and that car is known to be a high 13 second car.
Sorry for even attempting to share my experiences, you guys need to realize those who speak truthfully and those who talk out of their ass every second.

Not completely.

Look at where they shift and where they go to after the shift. This is negating the launch factor which with RWD and more torque the G35 certainly has an advantage.

But the ability to hold the gear longer allows the CL-S to have an advantage at points. But the power deficit hurts it in other places.

4-5 cars is a shitpot in a 1/4 mile race.

So if an auto G traps around 97 (which it does), you must be WELL above 100mph. Right?

And since a manual G traps at 100mph, that backs up my 100+mph traps.

So... What do you trap? And what are your mods?

scrib,
we cant look specifically at 1/4 mile times, its more than that. i have been getting better at driving my car ever since the track. remember this is on the street, and the drivers are not the best shifters since they are all very young like myself.
as for me, ive been to a track once and i got 14.4/96 mph
Its not that great, and i felt the car was not at its best, but thats my best so far. I now have lighter brakes so that might help.
mods: I/H/Cpulley/lighter brakes/upgraded tires
so far thats it. i figure i would run around 14.2-14.3 with my setup, possibly better if the track is good.

OK, so you can beat your buddy because he sucks at driving, but those times wouldn't stack up against a decently driven stock 6mt G.

possibly so, but at our age, i doubt either of us can drive any car to its full potential. i have raced three g35's till now, and i have beaten them all by at least 1 car. if i come across one that takes me, i wouldnt mind coming out and admitting it!

one thing i want to add is that mantis could have changed the outcome significantly had he got the jump or at least launched at the same time.
heres why i think so:
when i had only I/H, an auto g35 could beat me everytime except for sometimes me winning a rolling start race.
however, if i got the jump on him from the start, i would pull away the whole time. he not only couldnt catch up, but I would gain on him every gear. same thing applied if he got a good launch on me. i wouldnt be able to catch up and he would smoke me.

this is why i say street runs between cars .5 seconds apart can be very contrary to the outcome most people expect.
YES a g35c should SMOKE the living crap out of a 260hp fwd car (both stock), but if the race is not organized or if one person gets in a better race than the other, then a stock cls could take the g35c. its very unlikely, but it can happen.

I would say that if mantis got the jump, he would of been tied or lost maybe by half a car at worst.
