Got a quote for tinting... help answer my questions...

Ok, got a quote for 35% all around... $194 with tax.

They said they don't guarantee how good it will come out over the "dot matrix" but that based on other Acuras they have done they get good results.

They said they do one-piece seemless installation... no cuts.

Sounds good I think?

What about Lumar film? Is that good shit...?

The guy who did my tint put a piece of black vinyl over the dot matrix, he didn't tint over it. It came out absolutely awesome (looks factory) and I don't have to worry about bubbles/peeling from the matrix.....

No, I don't have pics, but I'll snap some this weekend (I owe a guy on the TL forum pics too).....

Price seems high. In FL I paid $129.99 plus tax for 15%. LLumar is a very good quailty. Some of them have lifetime warranty's too. Check to be sure you getting the one that does. Can't beleive you do all that to your car, & know about all these performance mods, but are clueless on window tint

llumar metallic tint, hmm I forgot what brand that goes under
but i've heard of it

it may take 4-6 weeks or maybe even longer for you to see
it cling seemlessly all together

its a tricky thing, cuz when i waited for a month, i thought that would be enough time, so i called my tint place up and they said its normal....so I waited some more and all the tiny bubbles
and scratches are gone and the dot matrix part improves over time.

Theres no real guarantee cuz its hard to get the tint to cling to
all the hills and valleys of the dots

regular charcoal tint should have less problems with the dot matrix area though.

I have the Quantum film tint 28%, and got it for $175 w/ tax

That's the same price I paid here in NY for 35%.

The owner of the shop is a fellow CL-S owner (Orange, to match his company colors). He tinted his himself, and did a fine job, so I knew I'd get good results.

The dot matrix bubbles are only slightly noticable up close, and you have to try to see it (i.e. if I didn't tell you they were there, you wouldn't know what to look for).

Since he has the experience of 2 CL-S jobs, I can give you the number of the shop. You can call him for details about price, time, and materials. It would be about a 60-90 minute drive from Albany.

A one-piece install is definately good.

The dot matrix is a problem, is it just Honda's and Acura's that have that? What's it for? But I like the idea of that one installer putting black vinyl over it. Juniorbean, what did he use to adhere it?? Do you have a pic?

$130, lifetime guarantee, but he said it does tend to bubble a little over the dots, but usually not too bad (mine turned out fine).
SunGard is the brand used. Good stuff, not cheap-looking shit.

Wow that price seems high. I paid 140 for 20% on the back three windows and 35% on the front two. They also used the black vinyl on the "matrix" part and it looks great. I think i got the lumar tint and it is very good quality. The basic tint job was $120 where the Lumar was $140 so im assuming Lumar is pretty good.
Oh if you do get the vinyl, you should wait a few days for the tint to dry some. The guys at the tint place said that since the vinyl is a sticker it will pull the tint up toward it moving the tint out of place. I had to wait like a week for them to put the vinyl on.

Actually that's a cheap price. You Floridians and Californians are spoiled with low prices b/c everyone does car stuff . Once you leave the NYC area (Manhattan and 5 Bouroughs), it gets pretty expensive. I paid $175 for mine. The guy who did mine did the guy I work with's TL-S about 3 days before mine, so I knew he had experience.... then we sent another TL owner to him!! Check this out....when I had the CL... I paid $235!!

It is basically a black vinyl decal, self-adhereing.....

See my post above... no pic yet, I'll snap one this weekend from the inside of the car (you can't even see if from the outside).....

Mine was a little less than that for 35% all around. I decided to have him not tint over the dots, and I think that works well, and I don't have to worry about bubbles in that area.

Ya, i have the llumar film on the wrx and its 35% I paid 100-125, shit i don't remember, I remember they initially quoted me 2 bills but I lowballed them down. The llumar seems like its pretty good shit though, and the one I got has a lifetime warranty.

I Just had Scottsdale Acura do it when they were doing the Rims and new tires. I think they charged $299.99 for 30%-20%
Figures it would be more from them but it was done nicely, I like it.

Soopa I would suggest you get 20% on the Rear Window, and get 35% on the front and rear sides....because from behind, since the front windshield is not tinted, alot of light gets through the windshield and makes the rear window very visible from behind, btw my car was 150 dollar all around with a black vinyl strip over the dot matrix on the top of the rear window...came out awesome...

I got my tint done for $185. It was $165 with an extra $20 cahrge to tint over the third brake light (they have to take out the back seats to get behind the rear deck.) I would recommend having them tint that part, otherwise, (especially with parchment interior) it will look like shit. Also, I had the dot-matrix part painted, rather than tinted. Maybe the vinyl approach is better, but mine looks great. You can check out pics here.

I got 30% on the sides and 20% in the back. The tint I used was Sungard and it carries a lifetime warranty.

Hope this helps.
