You can get a second opinion if you hvae to go to court. Also you can get the reciept from the shop you got it tinted at and show them that it is 35%. I thought it is illegal to have tint in VA anyway.

Problem is the OEM windows already have that green tint on them. So he's right, when the reader reads it, it's gonna show lower than the 35% you have.
Direct from Acura: "Special solar-energy-absorbing, green-tinted glass minimizes the effects of the sun and reduces the load on the climate control system."
Suck it up and pay the fine.

When I got pulled over in my Acura, my 35% tint read something like 18% when they put the meter on it.

If you know the installer installed 35% on the back and 50% on the front then you can go back to him and see if he has a light meter. If he does have him check his film and check your car for you.
One, the darkest factory glass can be no darker than 70%. So that means if you put a 40% film on the car, it should read 33 to 35. In VA your front windows have to be higher than 50% and the back have to be 35%.
Second, the other part of the problem could be the film. There are a lot of film comps that do not pay attention to VLT accuracy. If it is Madico, SUN-Gard, or solar gard it is a good chance that the film was darker than 35 out of the box, even though it said 35.
What part of VA are you in?? If you are near Ashland/Richmond you can go by my office and they can check it for you.

Pay the fine and move on. It's not worth the head ache. I never had a cop read the tint with a meter, they just told me it was way too dark.
Found this, and I thought it was really interesting information....
