Got killed by an Audi

Heading west on HWY26 yesterday afterwork, the traffic on the highway was pretty busy for the most part, I noticed an Audi zooming left and right through the traffic, I was in the left lane.. There was enough cars on the road that I didn't really do anything crazy.. but as we passed the busy part of town the traffic lighen up a lot.. so I picked up the speed a bit.. around 70-75ish MPH.. but he zoomed right up to me. At first I thought it was just one of those new A4's (see those a lot around my area), but than as took a closer look, and notice that the car was a lot wider, and it had the chrome side mirrors, so I thought, maybe it's an A6, but I just couldn't tell from the front base on what I can see in my rear view mirror. So I decided to move over to the right lane and let him pass, the next thing I realize was that it was a S FAWKING 8!!! So I thought to myself, what the hell.. at this point I spead up enough to pase the guy side by side, and I looked over.. it was some gaster looking old fat guy waring sun glasses when the sun wasn't even out.. He looked over, and smiled at me with a settle head nod, so I knew it was on, and I knew that he knews that I want a piece of that car. We didn't set anything, no hunk and go or anything, it was just a quick nod and we both just floored it.. By the time I hit around 115-120mph, I decided to shut down cause my exit was coming up.. plus he already had me beat by like 7-8 cars..

I never got to wave to the guy because he was pretty far a head by the time I shut down and pull off to my exit, but it was a very exciting run, I thought I had him at first, but once my car got up to around 90-100, it just did feel like it wants to go anymore, that's when his car pulled away.. Fun none the less..

I was going over 100mph for only a few seconds.. I know it a big no, no.. but I probably won't see another S8 again, so I decided to go for it.

My lesson of the day is.. Don't ever fuck with anything "S" from Audi.. especially the big brother S8.

A 6spd would have hung much better...it's your 4th that killed you. Those S8's are heavier than battleship.

First, sweet ass CL-S man. I like it alot. Second, that's sweet you got a run with one. I've seen maybe 2 on the road and have never had a run with one. A 100 shot and he would have been looking at your ass.

As for the S8 being heavy, it is...but it sure doesn't drive like it. I test drove one and it's actuallly alot of fun for a big ass car. Only thing I wish it had was a 6 speed. If I had to own a big car, I think it would be it. Just feels like a much smaller car than it is...but compared to my S4, it feels like the USS alabama....hehehe

Ah, and now there is the RS6... a dream car for me....

That one is really Monster Bi-Turboo V8... and it will even kill an M5... if chipped..

Yeah, I read that the RS6 has a 600HP potential easy, but I wonder how the tranny would hold up. I read that the RS6 got AT because the Audi 6MT couldn't handle all that power or something which was odd. I would love to buy an RS6, if it wasn't so overpriced and if the interior looked better (it looks the same as my A6 4.2 and I think my A6 has a pretty uggly interior)

Damn, you guys think that the 6 speed really could have a chance with the S8? I'm ran against a 6 speed CLS on the HWY before, and I was able to hang with him pretty good, I mean the CLS6 pulled on me, but it was no where near the way the S8 did. But I agree, if I had a 6 speed, and 100 shot in the trunk, I would have better chance against it.

BTW, thanks 4DR!! I'm sure your S4 is pretty F*ing hot as well!

Hey CLS2001_97124, I was wondering about your wheel/tire setup. What width/offset? How much do they weigh and do you have any rubbing issues?

I said keep up better, not beat the S8. The S8 is NOT THAT FAST!!! Sure it has 340HP, but remember the AWD has like 30 to 35% drivetrain loss, maybe even 40% not sure + add all the weight and Audi's shitty gearing...you get the picture.

Haha.....gearing is better than you think, but I dislike autos personally....and the drivetrain loss of the AWD isn't that high, trust me. Here's one thing you need to remember. When you dyno a 2wd car, you don't take in account that the front wheels (or rear in a FWD car) create drag/friction.......just because there's no power on those wheels don't mean they don't suck up HP. All that stuff counts.

CLS2001, you're welcome.

Damn, I just saw your times! Your S4 sounds nice! What you got in it?

My best friend has a 01 S4 with Down Pipes, Exhaust, and Chip and he pulled 270HP and 320 TQ at the wheels! Amazing power for AWD!

The AT Audis could use a more aggressive gearing. My A6 4.2 has pretty tall gears thus making it pretty slow off the line and even moving I guess. Maybe I'm comparing it to my 540 and that's where I get the logic of shitty gearing.

Most folks on Audiworld - A6 agree that our A6 could use better Final Drive, the S6 (same as S8) is only marginally faster than the non S 4.2 motor.

AC, I have chip, exhaust, suspension and 19" wheels and tires at the time of those runs. I had race gas in the car at the time. That program runs a little more timing, but same boost. A buddy with the same mods (different brand cat-back) dynoed 306hp/366tq @ the wheels. He ran basically the same time as me also, except he was on stock wheels and I was on 19s. So, I'm pretty happy with the results...can't wait for downpipes...but damn are they pricey!!!!!!!!

I do agree though the autos do seem a little timid. A neighbor of my parents had a chipped Tip and his car was barely, I mean barely quicker than my stock 6-speed. To be fair though, my stock car was faster than alot of stock S4s....I lucked out and got a strong car out the box. You have 540? That's the car I originally wanted....540 with a 6speed, but the price new was more than I really wanted to spend. The S4 basically gave me everything I wanted from that car but for 15k less so I had some money to play with afterwards. I still love the 540s and don't get me started on the M5 .

The S4 is a nasty car! I like the 540 as well and if the 545 doesn't change a whole lot design-wise then I may look at that car next.
