Last night when I was driving home from work, a moded mid 90's 300ZX (a twin turbo 2 seater hardtop, I believe) pulled up next to me at a traffic light. He started revving his engine, he must have either an aftermarket turbo or a boost controller on that thing, because I could hear his sequential BOV and the turbo hissing loud every time he revved. I knew I was in for a challenge. So when the light turned green, we both jumped out, I lauched at a little over 3k, my CL chirped a little, but I was able to get the traction. I look beside me, the Z is completely fish-tailing, I don't know if it is because of his bad launch or his turbo lag, I had him by half of a car until third, where he just completely blew me away. By the time he turned on to another street, he had me by about 3 1/2 cars. I don't know what he had in that car, but that thing is damn fast...

 

hahah shiet. i wish i was there to see all that happen

 

sometimes those 300's can be deceiving..i used to know of a black one in our area that pretty much looked stock, but was pushing 600rwhp....you can make those things pretty sick....nice death

 

Sounds like this guy had more power than he could handle.

 

ive got a buddy with a modded 6 speed twin turbo 300ZX, that fucking thing is SICK!!! he runs consistant low 13's @ 115 mph at the track....its got stock turbos but it does have a boost controller and a chip and some nice rims and tires on it....it looks stock besides the rims. even the exhaust is stock.

 

just amagine what would of happened if it would of hooked up. they run mid 13's stock

 

i aint never seen one run mid 13's stock, but then again ive only seen the one from around here run and it was mid 11's, anyways i didnt know they were that fast cause ive run into a couple that must have been stock cause i ran them w/out spraying....anyways, trapping 115, yeah that's good for low 12's if he cant get it to hook up

 

oh mi goodness, the same thing happened to me but the jackass tried to cheat by having his friend in a mr2 attempt to cut me off. Since the two lane road merges into a one lane, what I did was slam the gas, and shift my auto to 2nd and cut the damn basterd off before he had the chance to go what the f****. That was pretty sweet, but he got really close to my rear fender and that freaked the hell out of me.......

No, it was pearl white with a Blitz front bumper (I believe) and silver 5 spoke wheels. I have seen the guy driving around here before...

 

Hey Jim, let me chine in here. It's a 1996 5 sp. Don't think they ever mad a 6-sp?. I think his best time was 13.4 @ 110. I talked to him the other week and he installed a boost controller from Japan. Not a stock exhaust. His problem is that they are horrible to launch. The Supra turbos squat when launch, but not the 300Z's. Once the boost get going, whoa.

 

hey whats up dude, thanks for clearin it up a bit, i couldnt remember the specifics, all i know is that his car is FAAAAAAAAAST!! now that you mention it, i rememer his exhaust wasnt stock but it wasnt a fart-can style gaudy looking riceboy system, it looked really clean and subtle. after rolling my 14.4 in the CL-S that day, i thought it was pretty quick, but then he gave me a ride, and i was VERY surprised by the PULL on that thing, wow, every gear pulled soo much harder than the CL-S...and i loved the blow-off valve sound you could hear from inside the cabin. im anxious to see what that boost controller will get him at the track this year!!!

 

Your lucky you raced from a stop. Everyone is right about the TTZ have little grip on the starting line. As most people who own them know, the TTZ was never designed to drag race. It is a high performance driving machine. From a roll or at freeway speeds the TTZ will eat the CL for lunch. With a reprogramed ECU, Intake, & cat back, it will pull on late model Corvettes. With these mods you equal a Stage III TTZ which is good for 350+ RWHP.

 

maybe you should hunt that TTZ in your civic!

as far as i know they were rated a 320hp and ran a 13.6 E.T. they are bad they were ahead of they're time as far as the demand for imports then and know wish they still made them i would probably own one ! no comparison to the 350 z to completely diff cars to me

 

Owners have gotten high 13s out of them at 100-102mph stock...about the same as a new 350Z.

They can be REALLY REALLY fast with just bolt-ons

My buddy has an AUTO 95 300ZX TT with a bunch of bolt-ons (stock turbos and stock fuel system) and he is DEAD even with his brother's Viper R/T from 0-120.

 

Impressive... Maybe the Z that beat me didn't have as much modifications as I thought it had...

Well, anyway, without a doubt they are definately fast cars. However I will be looking for that Z in my Honda this weekend.

Thanks. The Civic is pretty quick. Definately alot faster than my CL-S, I don't know if it is capable of beating that TTZ (FWD vs RWD), but I do know it will be a very close race.

If I do manage to find him and race him again, I will let you guys know.
