Are Headers hard to install ?

I have ramps to elevate the car and get under, and some craftsman tools. But will I have to like take apart alot of things in the engine area to get to the rear headers ? Anyone know how difficult it would be ?

its not an easy task and its VERY NEAR impossible to do this alone....it took me and 3 freinds (all of whom have experience in working on cars to some degree) about 4 hours to do the headers on my car...we had ramps (ramps really dont provide a "comfortable" amount of room, it wouldve been alot easier using a lift. the rear is a major pain in the ass....looking back, we had a good time and we went out drinking to celebrate our accomplishment, but fuck, it was not an easy task....not to mention, the OBX headers didnt fit exactly right, so it took some time to get things together due to issues ob build quality with OBX headers...however, i will never regret getting the OBX headers, it is the deal of the century for the CL-S.....by far the biggest and best bang for the buck mod for a CL-S hands down.

I had never done anything more to a car than change the oil, but i know how they work. I did the header install by myself in about 4-6 hours. Its not too bad if you have the right tools. Need plenty of wrenches, sockets, extensions, and catorsionist fingers.

thanks jim. There's a guy on ebay selling OBX headers for 330 plus 35 shipping.

I was gonna try to buy it and attempt to install it myself. But after reading about the resonance from NashuaNight and how the rear header is a pain in the buttox, i think i'll just have to pass on the OBX and wait for the Stone Headers.

did an unistall and reinstall by myself to change obx gaskets to OEM gaskets...other than scratching up my arm trying to get to the rear header nuts, it wasnt that difficult...used a half sized ratchet for the top engine nuts and full size ratchet for the lower bolts

Ditto….
When we did mine we used a HIGH LIFT jack and then let the car down on jack stands in the factory lift points behind the front wheels.

It took three of us about 2-3 hours.

Will let you know Sunday evening after I get my OBX installed. Dust and I took a few hours to install his a few months back, this time we'll document the process on film and post a thread concerning the OBX Header install!

I've installed four sets all by myself without any problems. Jim, you need more experienced friends... The install by an individual shouldn't take more than 2.5 hours. With experience it can be done in 1.5 hours.

Ramps or stands are fine provided the car has the rears blocked for obvious safety reasons. Air tools are not required but certainly prefered.

Here is a link with pics to when I re-installed the stock system prior to trading in for the 6-Speed:

An original quick write up on the install:

All headers will be about the same effort to install. I don't think everyone has resonance with OBX.
