See all you Sport-Shift wanna-bee’s.
That’s how a REAL transmission works.

I don’t know.....I’ve never driven either.
I’ve read good reviews of the upcoming BMW system, but I still think that most drivers who prefer to have the most control over their car would choose the TRUE manual over a tranny that uses a PC to make decisions.

It’s just a preference, there really is no defined RIGHT or WRONG.

Even if a High-Tech auto is a tick faster then a manual in a straight line, I would still choose the good old fashion clutch.
My reason for trading to a 6-Speed next year is to add to the “fun factor” of the car.
Any additional performance will just be an added bonus.

i agree, the a true manual does offer advantages over electronic but the fun factor has as much to do with drivetrain, chasis strength and engine layout. I'll take a paddle shifting porsche over the true manual any day of the week.

I may have just changed my mind after reading that M3 SMGII review in the other thread.
But the cost would certainly be an issue.

I almost, "I say almost" changed my mind also after reading that review but am still targeting picking up a 2000 M5 with under 10,000 miles on
it for around $55k where the 2002 are going for $82k after luxury and gas guzzler taxes.

The people on the BMWM5.com Forum where sort of pissed at how their cars are depreciating sooooo fast. They did mention that the 911 is depreciating even faster. I think a lot has to do with the economy.

You know, I really enjoy my car. Just over a year old for me on 21 Oct., and I still love it..probably more since I dropped it, and will be more when I get the chrome and gold rims I'm looking at.

BBBBUUUTTTTT.....I'd have chosen the manual 6 ANYDAY over the automatic. I was looking for a manual, and only the fact that I could shift ....sorta...manually finally decided me on this car as opposed to 3-series or the MB C-class. Granted those other ones do have a manual, but the cost/feature ratio much favored the Acura. That being said, if next year they had the PDG with a manual six, I'd go in the hole to get that one.

I've driven a stick for quite a while, and the change over to the CL-S is definitely huge. With a stick I can anticipate a gear change, but there seems to be quite a lag with the "Sport-Shift". And there is of course the fun factor.

I've had my CL-S for about five days now, and I'm regretting buying this car instead of waiting for the 6-speed.

Oh well...
