My only source of income, is gone.

I am gonna take a huge step down, and go to a used civic, or something, under 10k.

These are my only options in this situation:
-dad
-quit school, get a full time job for 9 dollars/hour or something...
-find a good job that pays well, possibly something that relates to what i am studying
-sell the car, buy a civic, finish school, get student loan
-sell my condo, move back in with parents, keep the car, or get a new M3..hehe

anyone have any ideas for me?
I was thinking to sell the car, and start doing some business with the money, and hopefully come back with the 03 CL in a year or so...if i make any money..

anyways, how would the resale value on my car be like? i have 55k km, thats like 34k miles??..

As performance mods will make buyers wary that the car was raced or treated harshly. Also selling the mods (cheaply to your forum buddies) will yield greater profit.

Selling it on your own is going to get you the most $$. Dealers will need to make a profit on it if you trade it to them. Private buyers don't. Any way you can hold off till Spring? I don't think winter, especially in TO, would be the best time to sell a car.

 

Sell it on your own. More trouble, but more $$$.

I have to agree here, it took me 12 years after high school to get a BSEE and that was mostly because of fooling around with Girls and Cars . Get the degree NOW cars and girls will come later. Also in college they'll tell you how to use a "turning, clicking thing" A side note is that I installed a X CAI in 45 minutes last week end.

you can always get another car, but you need to finish school, and I really doubt that you want to get rid of the condo and move back home with mom/dad.

try to sell the car on your own, and part out any enhancements you have made, you will get more this way.

Something to think about....

If you sell you car on your own...you will probably get more money but it will be harder to do and when you go to get the other car you will have to pay taxes on the full car amount.

If you trade it in you will not get as much but it will be easy and you will not have to pay taxes on the amount that was deducted from the trade.

I would go to the dealer and see what they will give you on a trade and then see if its going to work out to the same amount of money with the tax thing.

Sorry to hear about you having to sell but school is way more important that a car! You could always sell you super secreat super charger to ALoP hehe

But thanks for the support, and I should be thankful for what i have.

I have $$ to live on for about a month, during this month I am gonna look for a job, and take night school courses. Though it has to be a job that pays well and could take me somewhere..no slave shit.

With my expenses, and the fact that I am losing lots of sleep having a full time job, and school at night...i want it to be a job that pays well, and something that would relate to my studies at the same time. Sounds like a dream, but its my only option that enables me to keep my car.

Anyone have any job opportunities for me in toronto....holla

A side note here if you decide to sell privately.
Sometimes a dealer will work with you on a 3-way trade of your car if you find a private buyer.

Example:
YOU trade the car to the dealer and get the TAX credit on your next purchase and then THEY buy the car from the dealer all at the same time.
Dealers are usually willing to do this because it shows as both a trade and successful used car sale for them on the books.

For the record, I was driving a POS car until I got out of school.
Once I got my Engineering Degree I treated myself to a nice brand spanking new 1988 Dodge Daytona Shelby-Z with no financial help from anyone but the bank.

Suffer a little now for a payoff in 4-years.

Go with your parents... Like the other guy said get the degree now. Not everyone has parents like us that can afford this stuff let alone take us in in a time of need.

 

Amir, you mention the Comptech supercharger in your sig but no answer to his question? I am curious too .. did you wish to purchase the supercharger and put this in your sig in wishful thinking or do you really have one, if so, how were you able to get your hands on one and for how much.. highly unlikely. BTW.. sorry to hear you gotta sell your car.. it is a bummer.. at least you will get great gas milegae with the Civic. =P

I'll tell you this right now...everyone tells you to go to school...what are you studying?? If you can get a job paying you $50K or more...put school on the side..2-3 classes a week at night...you'll be busy...but it's worth it. If you graduate and look for a job...you'll be lucky if you start out at $35K. School is overrated....however, later on...you need it.

Do what you feel you need to do....personally, I would bite the bullet and move back home...no matter how unsavory it sounds...the parents are annoying, but they are free room and board and kick down cash too..

3. FINISH SCHOOL
4. FINISH SCHOOL
5. Did I mention, FINISH SCHOOL.


Cars (and condos) come and go, your education is the key to your future, don't blow it off for ANY reason.

Research the property around your condo. Unlike a car, your condo is a real investment! It can maintain or increase your value, so don't sell it so fast. Besides... I could NOT move back in with my parents. Some things are worth working for... and independence is one of them. I've noticed quite a few people here are asian with stronger family values than others (and myself). (just an observation)

Finish school. You can have the most worthless degree, but come employment time, even in non related fields a degree will earn you a higher salary and more flexibility in negotiations.

Boys and girls, I have Masters degree in CS, and to tell you the truth, market is REALY bad does not matter whats your major, well, maybe if u are a MD or something

 

It'll get better. Get the degree during the recession, by the time you're done we'll be out of it. With all the anti-terrorism legislation, and cracking down on foreign students, maybe it'll think out the competition a little.

 

Actually, that's a good point. I also think 2 years of work experience is more valuable in CS than geting a master's in CS.

(Unless of course, you want to do theoretical programming/research, in which case you may even need a phD).

I agree with the majority. Keep the condo, sell the car. Condo
will get worth more and more. I just took out a major home equity loan to pay off my car, and that'll save me about 50 bucks a month!!!

And definitely stay in school. Get your degree sooner, get a job that pays better sooner, and get a car that can put the CL to shame sooner!!!!
