Going to the track tomorrow night. Any advice?

Lemme know if any of you have any words of wisdom for me. I want to make us proud.

I'm thinking of developing a long, cylindrical frozen device that will fit around the AEM intake tube to cool the air down. I figure I can just squeeze a bunch of those frozen packs into a big, rugged plastic liner of some sort, mold it around a piece of 2 inch PVC pipe leaving it able to be removed and placed onto the CAI tube and freeze it. When it is time to run one of these would be removed from the cooler and placed on the tube. Working in a laboratory I also have access to lots of dry ice---any thoughts??

I don't think it would be of great help...maybe taking out a roadlamp would be more efficient..

You torque brake at the line....I say 1500~1800 and ease in traction and floor it,btw, make sure you have the VSA off or traction control if you have a CL-P...some people say use D3...I prefer the sport shift, you get a firmer shift and slightly more revs....also, you should launch at the 2nd yellow....any later and your reaction times will be "nose-picking" times...
To get a really good reaction time...you have to anticipate the time from the 1st yellow to the 2nd yellow....and try to hit the 2nd yellow as soon as possible...but then you can also redlight....
If you have some Eliminations...tell me...I'll show you how to walk home with a nice trophy..
On the other thing...you should try to keep your car warmed up..I noticed that the car runs better warm...back-to back runs yielded consistently faster times...
One more thing...all that other stuff won't help...it's only really good for turbo cars...but if it's really hot you can toss some ice on top of the intake manifold....that's about it....

So, the way I figured I'd run it is as follows:

VSC off

Sport shift for the first runs. This def. gains an advantage b/c you can use those extra rpms up to 7200 and with the headers etc. this is a good place to be.

I'll prob. run the first times without brake torquing it. And with my Potenzas my car responds quite well to just slamming it off the line. The grip is incredible and I only get a little wheelspin.

Should I expect to get more or less wheelspin in 1st at the track vs. on the street? I figured the rubber on the track wopuld probably make a tackier surface with more grip?

Then I might try some runs going through 1st--2nd--3rd manually to see how this does. I don't like doing this to my car, but just once can't hurt.

The only way I'll switch to auto is if my first runs really suck--I can't imagine that will be the best way to run.

I may also ice down the intake manifold.

Any reason to let a bit of air out of the tires? I get pretty good traction the way it is.

And, I'll remove the jack and spare accordingly. Probably run on about a 1/3 of a tank--it seems like my car is slower when there is very little gas in it.

Thanks for the advice.

Run hard, run often. I would recommend at least a 1500 to 2000 RPM runup before launch. It might bog from idle. The tackiness at the strip will probably help you not hinder. Good luck.

Suprisingly enough...track surfaces tend to have a little bit of slip...the slam off the line will still spin your tires at the track..and this will bog your launch. Careful with the manual shifting...you can get caught if your not used to the gating....the SS will do the 1-2 and you only have to do the 2-3 shift...

(VSA off, SS on) Come off the line at about 75% throttle then once you get to about 15 mph, punch it WOT

MOST IMPORTANTLY: MAKE SURE YOU LOWER THE TIRE PRESSURE TO ABOUT 18-20 psi (use a good quality pressure gauge) YOU WILL GET A MORE AGGRESSIVE LAUNCH & NOTICABLY BETTER TRACTION

Please post your results.

I'll post them as soon as I get home.

So you think lowering the tire pressure will be a good thing?

My friends's going up with his Cyklone and I'm sure he'll be able to give me a bunch of hints when we're there. He consistenly runs 13.4-13.7 depending on the track with his Cyklone and only an aftermarket exhaust. Funny thing is that his trap speed is usually only around 95-96mpg showing how awesome that thing is off the line but then it begins to teeter off later on.

Most tracks use glue on the track & you better launch at a lot higher rpm than 2000. I try & stage faster than the person I'm running against that way I have time to set-up. Lock the brakes up & then rev the rpms up to about 3500+ rpms. Then time the light & let off the brake. I usually I don't have wheel spin or at the most a little screech.

Hmmm...just wondering...how did you rev up to 3500 rpms for the launch?

Jamming your foot on the brake really hard. Start giving it gas, the front end will jump up & start edging up but apply more preasure to the brake & it will not move. Time the light & launch.

I know our car torque brakes like that...but what I'm saying is that the stock TC doesn't allow revving above 2100 rpms.

My times were worse when I tried the brake torque technique. I'm not sure if all the tracks are like this, but at Firebird raceway, a poor reaction time doesn't effect your 1/4 mile. It's timed from the second you cross the initial staging point, till you complete the quarter mile.

To reduce the swelling on fractured ankles styrofoam cups (large ones) are cut in half and have the bottoms removed. They halves are then frozen and when cold enough are placed around the ankle or thinner extremities. (Not THERE you pervs. ) It keeps the extremity cool.

Caveat: I have never heard of this used on a car but 50000 Frenchman can't be wrong?

Good Luck
