Going on a roadtrip w/o a car bra!

Im gona be driving down to LA for Spring Break, and I do not have a car bra. Last time i took my dads Accord, the front had like thousands of bugs smashed on the bumper and hood. If i wax my bumper and hood before I go, u think that I should be ok, and that everything will was right off?

I would try to get to a DIY car wash as soon as you get to LA. Put a bunch of coats of wax on the car and they should come off easy.

Drove many times to LA ... at night. Hardly any bugs. Different story if you drive during the day, especially if it's hot.

Exactly.

Wax won't help this problem much.

I drove from NH to TN and GA back in July '02, and bugs were caked on the front of my car. I didn't wax it before I left, but everything came off when I washed it after I made the return trip. It took a bit of work, but nothing major.

just make sure you clean it and wax it when you get home, and before you go.

I make the trip to Southeast San Diego (101S -> 152E -> 5S -> 805S -> 94E) for major holidays, and the board members have pretty much summed it up: 1) wash and wax car before making the trip, 2) getting to the Grapevine before late morning will minimize your exposure to bugs; the swarms are seasonal, 3) if road debris is a major concern, get a bra!

Happy motoring!

why don't u just pick up a bra off of ebay or something for road trips? That's what I would do when travelling that kind of distance. The CL's paint job is hardly decent. When I had my CL, most of my chips were from my road trips. If I ever take a road trip with my Z, I'll definitley use a bra just for the trip.

spray the bumper and hood with wd-40 prior to your trip. the bugs will wash easily and the wd-40 will not harm your paint.

A car bra is the way to go and it reduces the chance of getting a bad rock chip on the paint. I have colgan car bra's for all my car and i only use it on long trips. It my security blanket for my front end.

just make a bra for the trip out of masking tape or that blue tape people use on their headlights on the road course events. Rocks get under a leather bra and do more damage to your car than if you didn't have one.

This is not true now days. Maybe in the past with cheap ones. Today's car bra's are tight fitting. I have used them for 5 years on & off with no ill effect. Everyone I know who uses them also have no problems. At least with the new ones in that last few years. & they were all dealer ones.

don't forget to wax and clean your a-pillar and side mirrors...bugs like to crash into that as well!

Here are some nasty pics of my car because I took off the nose mask due to rain....
