getting headers retorqed?

I'm wondering is it necessary to get comptech headers retorqed every so often?
What made you think that "Man, I think my headers need to be retorqued!" What are some of the signs you need to look for? If the headers need to be retorqued, does that mean they werent installed right from the beginning? Thanks again guys....

I have been thinking about this too. Say I take my car in to get re-torqued, how am I going to know they even did it? I have a feeling my dealer will say its not necessary.

One way to find out if you need to retorque is to have some one rev your engine with the hood open, while you are listening for hissing sounds from the manifold.

It wouldn't hurt to check, the Comptech instruction do mention it.

However, I has checked mine twice (once just the other night) since I installed the headers and all bolts are still tight, probably even past spec...

I checked mine also... they are still tight and it looks like they use locking nuts that don't back off. ymmv

Would Comptech headers have to be retorqued because they aren't factory headers, and once you remove the factory equipment, the threading in the holes are not as reliable?

Is retorquing the headers something that would have to be done every couple months or just if it wasn't done right the first time?

It is quite common practice to re-check when changing a part. It probably isn't nessesary but doesn't hurt and is good practice.

It really has nothing to do with being an aftermarket part. I even check factory peices when I replace them.

As for the threading in the holes, there isn't any per-say. The headers are mounted on studs, not with bolts. If you take care not to strip anything, the hardware is reusable.

The nuts are locking style so the chance or them backing off is lesser.
