Gate shifting vs SS mode

Whats better to use and what are the differences? I did some research but came out with an incomplete answer. I know theres like a .4 second difference if you gate shift at a 1/4 mile and that regular D5 shifts at 6800 rpm (correct me if im wrong). Can you shift at 7200 rpm with SS mode too? What gives you a better 1/4 time? Are both the same performancewise? gateshifting i usually shift at 6700-6800. When do you guys shift when using SS?

Just shift at the redline.

Gate shifting only helps becuase it allows you to hold it in 1st gear.

so i should use ss mode and shift right when it hits the redline? Is that what you do when u go to the track?
I did notice that with ss mode it changes gears automatically...
Do both methods lag the same when u shift?
