gas mileage---yikes

344 miles before the yellow "need gas" light came on...I believe we have a 19 gallon tank with a 3 gallon reservoir...so....344/16--
21.5 miles to the gallon....yikes! This is without even getting on the car at all... (although the car had 40 miles when I got it...) AND driving mostly highway....what does everyone else get for gas mileage?

How many miles are on the car? If it's relatively new, I wouldn't expect to see good numbers until the car is well broken in.

The capacity of our gas tanks I believe are approx. 14 gallons with a reserve of 3. I could be wrong, but my car takes no more than 14 gallons to fill up when the yellow light turns on. The most millage I managed out of one tank full is 463 miles. It took 14.2 gallons to refill the tank.

344 miles for the first tank is very good. Generally, it takes several thousand miles for the engine to set in (break in period), which means many tanks of gas. I only managed 250 - 300 the first several thousand miles, but after that I averaged about 350 - 375 per a tank. This is half freeway and half street. Others on this board have managed even better milage than me.

I'm driving in the city and I always reset my trip odo when I fill up. I usually get 170 miles off a tank give or take 10 miles. I moderately push past 6000rpm. Is my car fucked up or what. the most I every got was 300 miles all highway. let me know whats up, its been like this since day one, I've got 6000 miles up to date.

One thing about Mileage, for sure you would get much higer MPG number with long HW drives.. I do my daily short commute oh HW 6 miles each way and I am getting 20 MPG winter and 23 MPG (summer). If I do 200+ miles trips I average 27-28 MPG.

It's all about how long you can keep rpms below 2000 for the longest period of time.

Rondog,

170 miles...you must be drag racing every street light. Some is having fun! That's the lowest milage per a tank I ever heard of. Maybe you should start a new post stating "What is the lowest milage ever seen on one full tank of gas"? I think you would probably be in the top ten.

Back to milage. There are so many varibles that can alter milage i.e. freeway driving, street driving, stop and go driving(traffic
jams)and weather. What type of terrain are you driving in (straight aways or hills?) Are you using A/C? Do you have a 500 Watt stereo system consuming power? Wear on your tires? Modifications (headers, intake, rims and tires). ETC. ETC. We could go on for days.

Bottom line is if you want to compare milage between two vehicles, both must exactly dupicate each others varibles(items listed above). So I wouldn't be to concerned about milage. Just enjoy your car to it's fullest. It was mean't to be driven.

I'm not going to tell you not to worry about your tranny, but you do have a warranty for piece of mind.

I'm only getting around 18-19 MPG on my car. I do NO highway driving though. All I do is city. I don't exactly floor it but I do hit 4-5K rpm every time I pull away from a stoplight or stop sign, which is quite often on my driving route. On the one semi-highway trip I took I got around 26mpg or so, so I know it's capable of it. Gas mileage sucks because of my drive, but the car's still fun.

BTW, I own a CL-P and I'm proud of it.
