Gas mileage

I got 23.5 mpg on about 60% highway / 40% city driving. It's been a long time since my car was remotely close to stock, so is this good?

IMO yes in deed
I don't have half the mods you have and get the same.
Do you think the mods on your cars effect the mileage less than on other cars or the more performance mods you get the faster you drive which in turns lowers your mileage

Yeap, that's about right... I get 21 or so (mostly highway, but stop and go traffic on the highway too). I've got a lead foot (cruise at 80), so that's why my mpg is a little low.

Yeah I drive 70-80 all the time with the occasional redline spurt near my home. I keep downshifting more now without the turbo.

The best I got was 408 miles and had to fill up 16.3 gallons ~ 25mph. That was a mostly highway trip. This last trip was about 354 miles on 15 gallons.

allmotor - you got that kind of gas mileage w/ the turbo still in your car?

Best for me was a trip up to maine with a full car (4 people plus luggage) and that was 26mpg...

I usually use 13-14 gallons for 270-300 miles... I've got a log book with the amount of gas I put in since I bought the car, so I do long term mpg analysis every once and awhile to check on the state of the engines tune.

Redline spurts aren't that often, but I'm over 6K all the time

That's actually not funny (weird)...

By inproving the flow thru the engine (intake and exhaust), not only do you get HP gains, but also mpg gains...

I've got a K&N drop in that I had for a couple hundred miles, and I have to check the gas mileage in a couple weeks to see what the change is (1000 miles before compared to 1000 miles after). I don't expect much, but I do expect to see a change.

If I ever decide to start modding my car, the first thing will be headers because they will help hp and mpg...

I get about 375miles per tank and average around 25.5mpg overall. I drive aggressively in the city, but once on the highway I'll set the cruise between 70-80, depending on my mood.

This is w/o the turbo... it was about 1-2mpg less under normal driving with the turbo. About 6-8mph less when flooring it around all the time!

I am averaging 22-25mpg w/ mixed driving and no mods.
I think it is getting time to get some headers.

im stock and i get around 390 - 400 average, 85% highway at 75-80+, thats about 25 mpg(takes 16 gallons to fill up.

best i got was 45X and filled up just under 16 gallons, close to 29 mpg.

and i usually shift at no less than 4000 rpm, but sometimes i skip gears, do you think this helps or hurts gas mileage(its very smooth, not mis matched rpm's)

I skip 5th all the time when I'm getting on the expressway, dont usually skip any other gears though, unless I ring it up to redline in 2nd and just go right to 6th because I dont want to waste anymore gas.

how the heck are you 6-speeders getting 24-25 mpg? i can only get like 20 mpg under normal driving, which is probably 60-70% hwy....sometimes with traffic.

i try to shift at about 3000 or less and usually end up on 5th gear at 45mph. i don't drive aggressive either.

just filled up 15gal and the calculation only showed about 20.4mpg. that cost like $48-$49. pretty sad how much we're all spending now to enjoy our cars.

That's pretty low.... are you using a CAI, did your basic tuneup and tire pressure check lately. Really should be higher than that

i'm stock and pressure is set to 35psi on 235-45/17 tires.

i do use the a/c, but i figure i should still be better than 20. does everyone else use their a/c when getting 23-26mpg?

Actually we are spending $48-$49 just to 'drive' our cars. If we were actually enjoying our cars... the $48-$49 would be much more frequent!!

If you are not WOT, the car tends to run at around 14.7:1 AFR... this is obviously the best efficiency. Anytime you are close to or near WOT... its like 12.5:1.

If you drive in hilly areas... or up and down hills all day, your mileage will suffer.

My low fuel light usually comes on when I have used about 13.5-14 gallons and thats when I fill up. My recent trip from Cincinnati to just north of Columbus and back (usually between 70-75mph) plus some city driving netted me almost 27mpg.
The best I have gotten was almost 29 mpg and the worst was I believe about 20mpg. This is all with a supercharger too!. I love honda engines.

I was very surprised to get 29mpg on the highway at 70mph and AC on, no passengers. I'm at 25k miles. I went 175 miles on 6 gals, but I would shift to neutral and cost when slowing down to 55, and accelerated at a moderate rate, not like my normal stomp!

Was getting 23mpg w/70% hwy mileage @ 75mph and frequent SS usage in town. IIRC, frequent SS usage in my CL-S cost me ~1mpg.

I consider this great mileage for the smiles it generates!

how the hell do u guys get that good. I have a 5at, and i usually get around 260-280 miles on a 14.5-15.0 gallon tank. That is not that good, it usually comes out to 19 mpg. Is that bad considering that i live in chicago, illinois, and that i drive mostly about 85% on city and 15% highway??

the best i got was 315 miles on a 15 gallon. Do you think i could fill mine up to 16 gallons?
IS MY MPG GOOD OR NO?

Once I put new Mobil 1 oil that meets latest GF-4 industry standard(fuel economy), I am getting decent milage ~25MPG even though I drive 70% city and 30% highway. Also, make sure you have clean/new air filter, tire pressure 34-35 PSI, and take it easy on acceleration/stopping.

I'm with CL SPEED 01.....I'm pretty much on par with him except that I'm in Phoenix, hotter outside air and more A/C use (and I've got a 6-speed). Sucks, can't figure out how to get better fuel economy. How about the Arizona peeps....what kind of mileage are you guys getting?

Average! I get 15-17 in town and 26-30 on the road. In town, 99% of any real car, eliminating econboxes, get about 13-20. I mean you got 260 hp in high performance engine . Anymore mpg and you will be in a 4 cylinder.

i've gotten 562 miles on 15 gallons. equaled out to over 37 mpg. I-10 and I75 from tallahassee to naples and then around naples a little bit. but usually pull about 350 when the gaslight turns on.

see i don't get that. i would have to say i have about 300-310 hp to my car. but how does "cls" get about 350 miles driving in the city. i don't get it. i get no higher than 285. I do put in about 14.5 gallons. but still. he is putting 15, and that half gallon is not the difference. hes putting up an extra 80 miles over me

i just don't get it.

Well driving conditions, A/C use, and shift points all have a big effect on mileage. Plus each car is different as far as tune goes, so take that into consideration.

I think its next to impossible to get 300+ miles on 15 gallons in the city. Unless you are barely accelerating from every stop.... (and can withstand the honks from behind!!)

With the turbo I even got 210 miles once with mixed driving.. that's 14mph!

My miles are 90% highway / 10% city because I only use it for road trips but I have averaged 28.1 mpg with a best of 32.8 (N/A). Last three tanks (turbocharged) have been 28.7/30.5/28.5mpg. Looks like the highway/city makes a big difference...

I am actually surprised that I get better gas mileage with my 6 speed that I got with my 5AT. I know the drive train is more efficient, but the 6 speed revs higher at the same speed. I drive on the highway a lot (85%) and I generally average around 34... corrected to the US gallon is about 27MPG. Normally I set the cruise at 130Kph which is about 80 Mph.

Remember that headers and intake really impact (positively) fuel efficiency.

I used to have to try so hard to get 300 miles a tank with mostly city driving but now I hit 300 easy and I drive it pretty hard. Try Gumout Fuel System Cleaner, worked wonders for my MPG.
