garage trying to screw me?

Ok, so i had my stock tires replaced with the new ones in my sig. As soon as i pulled out of the garage i feel a slight tug in the steering wheel. It's pulling towards the right. It's not bad but i can feel it. There wasn't a problem before i took the car into have the tires replaced. Now. I just had my 15k service about 4k miles ago at PAA. I don't drive on bumpy roads and i haven't hit a curb and i always slow down to a crawl when going over rail road tracks. I called the garage up and told him and said well you can never tell with older tires what the wear pattern will do to the steering????? I'm like what? I would've felt something before and i didn't. NOw he is trying to tell me that there was a problem before?? If he is trying to screw me(they messed with the alignment when they replaced the tires), then i really don't want to take it back.

Re: garage trying to screw me?

This sounds like it could be a problem with the new tires. I would take it to a different garage and have them check it out. Most front wheel drive cars have a fixed wheel camber & castor (not sure if ours does?) so it would be difficult for it to go out of alignment unless you bent something during a hard impact. If you did bend something, i'm sure you would have noticed this before your tires were changed. IMO it is very unlikely your old tread pattern could cause this kind of problem unless maybe the camber/castor on our cars -is- adjustable (maybe ac_service/EricL would know?). Even then, i'd be skepticle though.

maybe try swapping the front wheels and see if it pulls in the opposite direction. If it does, it's the tire(s).

Ugh This is really annoying. I stopped going to this garage place a while back because i felt they were screwing me. I regretable called them because the acura dealership near my house wouldn't install anything but stock tires. Ugh. Well, i hope west chester acura is because i'll be calling them on monday for my state and tire issue.

What annoys me is that they didn't do a road test to see how the tires felt. I mean it took me less than 5 minutes to figure out something wasn't right.

Why did they mess with the alignment when they replaced the tires? Did your old tire show a bad wear pattern? Did you ask them to redo the alignment? You don't do anything with the alignment when replacing tires (unless there is a visible indication that something is off). YMMV

Yeah, i'm kinda ticked. He gave me an okay deal on the tires and i think now he is trying to re-coupe the cost. He wanted to charge me 290 a tire. I told him tirerack gives them to me for 202 and he came down to 207. He seemed cool but when i told him the car was fine before he said well you never know with these things and i was like, huh? WTF? This is an Acura man. My old nissan would have problems where the alignment would be off but since i've had the Acura for about a year it has a nice steering and i can let go of the steering wheel and not have fear that it will pull.

it could be normal.
by car pulls slightly to the right with my 225's, but with the 205's its perfect

how noticeable is it?

just go back to the shop that put them on. you paid over $800, you shouldnt feel bad for going back and complaining.

Really? Interesting. It's noticable. I don't feel bad but i've lost confidence. Especially when i called back he said it could've been that way before

Zapata, I have the same tires as you on the stock rims. Bought them at Tirerack, and had West Chester Acura mount & balance them. I had no such problem. Personally, I would NEVER have anything to do with a shop that doesn't back up their work. Learn from your experience, and never let them service your vehicle again. I would go to West Chester Acura have them check it out. If the original shop fu*ked up, ask to be compensated (money, that is), but NEVER let them touch your vehicle again. If they refuse to compensate you, take them to small claims court.

Ugh. Yeah. The guy is being a tool. I'm not going back there. I stopped going a while back because they were doing shit like this before.

I've had problems before where certain tires pulled the steering wheel. But, this happened to me when I put on slightly used tires and they were different brands and the pull was very noticeable. So it very well could be the tire.

Go back and be an asshole. Tell him that if he can't put the tires on correctly, then you don't want them.

Say, "take'em off, I don't want them"

Then he'll jump to meet your demands.

Good luck dude.

I know that I would be pissed!!!

When you get new tires, you expect a crisp feel, and more accurate steering, not PULLING to one side or the other.

I didn't have this issue at all.

Try swaping the front/rear and see if it still pulls. Maybe you do have one bad tire.
Or, try swaping the front left/right for a quick test, as these tires are direction specific. Just once around the block won't make a difference.

Maybe there is some dirt near the lug area on the rim? Take the rim/tire off and put it back on yourself. Maybe it is not seated correctly against the rotors?
