Well, credit given where credit is due. Keeping in a good range on an autoX course or roadcourse with a stick is very admirable. I'm getting SMG, you know this and I know your not a big fan of it. Now, I'll start paying for that M3 more when I go bracket racing at the track

Don't get me wrong. It would be fun to drive SMG and if I was really buying an M3 I would consider it for re-sale value alone. However, there is something about a perfectly executed heel and toe downshift that is very rewarding.

So, if you are actually on a roadcourse, if you set it in the most aggressive automatic mode, will it actually downshift on its own, like an F1 car, or do you have to use the paddles?

Not too sure of the answer on that but maybe you can push me in the right direction towards DINAN mods.

SMG = GREAT CONSISTENT NUMBERS

SMG = 13.3

SMG = YOUR NOT WINNING NO MATTER HOW MANY DIFFERENT WAYS YOU WANT TO HASH OUT A RACE.
Just because you have an SMG doesnt mean you will run 13.3 all day. Conditions, elavation, etc. all play roles in the time. Just because one person runs a 13.3 doesnt mean that if you take your car to the track thats what its going to run.

In the M3 the manual will always post better times. My friend ran a 13.4 in 90 degree weather his first time at the track. Cooler weather and with more experience he could possibly hit very high 12s.

BTW....do you plan on Auto-Xing or tracking your M3??

You will never really enjoy your M3 unless you track it. By the way, they are extremely twitchy if the driver isn't smooth. I think it is due to the chassis stiffness. I was on track with a friend, who needs more time on the track, and anytime he made a sudden correction you FELT it. I was praying he would let me drive so I could show him what it could do. So much more nimble than my M5. Very much a sports car.

I got a ride in my friends 02 M3 manual at the track last week. It had a FSTB, Supersprint exhaust, Short throw, and performance brake pads. It was an amazing ride!!! Too bad we couldnt keep up with my other friend who was driving a 02 Z06. IMO you cant tell how a car REALLY handles, unless you take it to the track.

I will track my M up at Lime Rock I'm friends w/ one of the instructors.

You seem to know
As for the SMG, they are 1 tenth behind a stick and in the 1/4 mile catch up for the same numbers from what I have researched. The stick gets a better launch and a better 0-60 number. Better off the line.

guess i am a liar? outstanding power my ass! as i said i WHIPPED HIS ASS TWICE. dont believe the hype brother(rwd). i had a flat 13.0 civic hatch(ON STREET TIRES). NEVER SAID MY CLS WAS A RACE CAR BUT ALL THIS G35 SHIT IS GETTING ON MY NERVES. superior car my ass
Dude, calm down. I believe you. I was just saying the cars are as fast. To me a Type-S vs a G35 is a 50/50 throwup, driver error and jump proving everything.

In this month's EVO, they go over the best track cars...good reading.

It is a driver's race auto for auto. Stick for stick is yet to be seen cause there is no manual G35.

Of course fwd cars have proven to be able to drag race, there are 8 sec fwd civics out there. Physics still says that rwd drive cars have a force distribution advantage over fwd cars. You cant argue with physics.

Everybody needs to take a chill pill man. It could be believeable or not. IMO (i don't) but i am not going to bash the guy. The other driver may have had an error? You never know?! When I raced the GS i got flamed but, hey there were two driver errors.

Now when I went up against the m3, the only thing that I was able to do with it was rev at the light and THAT WAS IT. I even lost reving to him at the light and we weren't moving. So I say, unless one of us were there we can't really bash him ............ too bad! :P

We shouldnt compare 2 door CL type S with the Four Door G35. I know that the weight difference between the CL and the TL isnt much, but still the G35 Coupe for sure will be faster. I drove the 4d G35 and it wasnt that fast. I can say a stock CL-S Auto. We have to wait for the 2 Door G35 and then compare them.

Now, about the M Power spanking that is going on here which is making me LMFAO is a total BS. I owned a CL-S and i had all the bolts on and there is no way it can even hang with a M car. I'm not going to say M3 or M5, M car is enough. I used to say that M3's are slow of the line because they dont have TQ until i raced one and i saw how that car pulls in the 1st gear. That car hung with me through the 1st gear and end of the 2nd and after that i start pulling and look what does my car put down to the wheels. We raced twice from a stop and the M3 did very well. I was impressed because i thought there is no TQ and this car isnt going anywhere from a stop. We raced from 0 to around 110 and i was ahead of him with about 1 1/2-2 cars only. I would put easily 2 cars on a Bolton CL-S just to 50-60 let alone 110.

Fast Gold,
Which car did you race the M3 in, I'm sure you're not talking about the CL. Was it the z28 or the cobra?

It was the Z28. I think its hard to beat the M3 with a Stock Cobra unless the driver in the M3 cant drive. I beat alot of Camaro's SS and T/A WS6 with my car. I would say it would be very close between the M3 and a stock SS or WS6, it will go down to the driver. NOTE: The M3 guy i raced is a very good driver and he always go to racetracks and drag racing.

My friend has a modded E46 M3 that ran a 13.4 with a shitty 60'. I think it was 2.2 or 2.3, which sucks for a RWD car. Granted it was his first time at the track though, so there is room for improvement. Last year when he had his M coupe, he told me he raced a modded WS6 and walked it hard.

I told u i smoke Modded SS's and Ws6's. My car weighs at 3300LBS. For ur info my 13.1 at 109.66 was with 245's 16inch shitty tires with major wheel spin. Now i have 315's on the rears and i should be able to get 1.8-1.9 60ft's now, u do the math. U cant compare M power Cars with Muscle cars. They will be left behind badly against a modded muscle car. The only M power can that worries me now is the Z8, other than that i'm not worried.

I know that modded LS1s are fast, but I was just trying to point out that the new M3s/M coupes are slightly faster than lightly modded WS6s. M's are more tuned towards handling than straight line performance, unlike F-bodies.

why can't you guys come to terms with the fact that not all people who have better cars are racing "all the way" all the time? Sometimes i race with POS cars, but i dont floor it or anything, and they beat me, but so what? Maybe the M5 driver was a crappy driver who was scared of the twisties, and the CL driver was WOTing the whole time, taking crazy dangerous turns!!!

i believe u can keep up with a M5.. maybe some rich 16 years old kid who just learned how to drive stick.. =)
personally, i wouldnt even race m5 or the new m3.. waste of gas... and no fun.

i m not saying CLS is a super fast car.. but for me, i have faith in my CLS hehehe i believe CLS can do more than just beating an IS or V6 mustangs!!! hehee

and i smoke my friends 98 M3 auto all day all night all year long HAHAHAHHAHAHAH
and ive beated RX7 Turbo ( dont know what year, and soome old white guy drove it), by abought 1 car lenghth... it was a turbo one cuz i could hear the bov. i still beated him even tho i got my fuel cut off in 2nd gear hahahahhaha
so.. anything is possible .....
by the way... i dont know what s wrong with the new m3.. all the new M3 makes weird nasty noises when they rev in first gear... sounds like it s gonna fall apart...
