why can't they put the turbocharged v8 used in cart racing hondas? i'm sorry, but the nsx is overdue for an eight.

I can't see spending any more than $33,000 for a six. Anything above better be an eight. Thats why I hate the current RL. What is it? $45,000 for it?

You wouldn't pay over $33K for a 911, E46 M3 or some version of Skyline GT-R? The Euros pay about that for a "lousy" sub-150hp I4, but it comes in an Elise.

All else being equal, I think if they kept the NSX lighter than 3500pounds, powered it with 350hp & 239lb/ft of torque, and priced it at sub $70K, it would be an unqualified hit, especially with the high tech/environmentally friendly tagline that they can now use to describe the new powerplant.

I agree with Dtew on this.. but in order to increase the torque wouldn't a V8 be a more viable way to go? look at the power ratings here.. 350hp is great but 239 ft-lbs of torque is not much more than what the CL-S has

I remember some years ago reading that Honda didn't want to build a V8 because of environmental concern. I thought it was either:

1. A corporate excuse for whatever real reason (technological or cost), or...

2. Another confirmation in my belief that Honda is run by a variation of "Enzos", that is, idealistic car lovers that are out to build their zen-mobiles, and only compromise their vision to stay in business. In other words, relative to other carmakers Honda tries as much to build what they want to build (nothing half-baked by committee), and even though the market may demand something else, they forge ahead with their own plans, hoping that everyone will eventually come around to their brilliance, or...

3. The most cynical view is that Honda is absolutely conscious of market demands, but their perception is even better than ours, and they're acutally actively cultivating the image of theory #2. I don't think this is the case, though, because one cultivates an image for profit (see BMW), not for itself. And Honda completely failed to capitalize on the Type R/S2000 opportunities. If they brought in 10000 S2Ks per year, they still would've sold every single one of them.

look, honda needs a v8...that's the bottom line. lexus took off because they had a v8.

even if it doesn't sell as well as a v6, it's still supposed to be a premium brand and premium brands have v8s...acura is the only that doesn't have one.

why not the nsx? the next legend/rl is supposed to have it, so why not just design a nsx around a tweaked v8 from that?

again, these are all rumors again. which one to believe? we'll know when acura tells us.,

It won't worth more than $70,000 if it really comes out with a V6 again, regardless whether it's still aluminum chassis or not.
