i am new to this forum but not new to acuras. i own a 94 acura legend, and looking to update my car wiht 01 CL-S.
here r my questions.
i went to acura to get more info about transmition. service person told me the reason that trany fails is bc of powerful engine that have too much torque and tranny can't handle it. After i asked him that i know many ppl have chage thay tranny , and the new one failed agian , i asked him why is that than new tranny fails again, he didn't have a answer to that , simply told me that car have 100K warrantry and that will keep replace tranny if it fails. so if my tranny fails every 20K thay will replace it. and what if it fails after my warrantry ??? 4K out of my pocket for new one???? .I asked him if thay get a lot cars wiht dead trannys , " about 25 a mouth" so about 1 a Day :silvermad

the CL its a really nice car , but the tranyn problem just keep me little away, and no i see why that only made CL for 3 years.

is there anythign alse i schould know about CL transmition failing .

thanx

yea, get the 2003 6 speed manual shifter and have no worries
I came from 2 Legend Coupes before this, easy transition to the CL, not as sharp looking or as rock solid as the Japanese Legends but a great car, great engine, great shifter with lots of standard equipment.

I agree with what he said.

Furthermore, since the dealer will always replace your tranny up to 100K, you're safe until then. Afterwards, you're on your own - so if the tranny fails, you'll have to fork out the money to replace it.

If you can't afford the 6speed, at least get a low mileage one that will cover you until 100K. Get rid of the car before the 100K mark in order to avoid expensive problems. But be cautious, it may be hard to sell an automatic CL(S) that's approaching the 100K mark for obvious reasons!

I knew of the tranny problems before I got mine. I had my tranny replaced about 10K ago. I don't regret getting my CL. I have 50K left on my warranty. At the end of that I would worry about whether I want to sell it then. Either way, it's a kick ass car, and I would still recommend it to someone.

And, yeh....if you can get the 6 speed.

Good luck.

Can you spend $20K on a CLS? I know of a used 03 6 speed for that much with 27500 miles & modded.

First, learn to type/spell. That was mind numbing. Second, they didn't discontinue the CL because of the tranny problem. The TL has the same problem. Third, the tranny issue has been discussed at length, do a search. What else do you want to know about the "transmition" failing? If it fails, it fails. That's what the warranty is for.

yes i did read all that in tranny issues, and still don't get it why acura replace old tranny with same tranny that will fail anyway , it doesn't make sance.

Because that is the only transmission available for this car. It would not be cost efficient for Acura to develop a new automatic transmission, especially considering the CL is discontinued and the TL has moved on to another generation.
