Fuel Pressure

I HAVE A STUPID QUESTION, MAYBE SOMEONE CAN HELP ME, I WANT TO CHANGE THE STOCK FPR TO AN AFTERMARKET ADJUSTABLE THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT THERE ARE FOUR LINES GOING INTO THE STOCK, IN FROM THE TANK, OUT TO THE FUEL RAIL, VACUUM, AND ANOTHER LINE THAT GOES TO THE TANK THAT SAY RETURN ON IT, DO I NEED THAT LAST LINE? WHAT DO I NEED TO DO? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

ALSO WHAT IS THE STOCK FUEL PRESSURE AT IDAL???

?????

All that I can tell you is:

The Helms (2001 Acura CL Service Manual) shows:

Vacuum line (small line at the top) (#1)

Fuel return hose (positioned about 30-degrees [when looking from the top] and down from the vacuum line) (#2)

The fuel pressure regulator then threads into the fuel joint...

The Helms (Acura Service Manual) only shows two rubber hoses being removed and the unit being unthreaded (three connections total).

The fuel pressure with the vacuum line removed and clamped == 41-48 PSI

The fuel pressure with "full" vacuum (at idle) is == 32-40 PSI.

Yes, and I think your are confusing various assemblies...

The fuel pressure regulator is shown with two line connections and it threads down with a lock nut...

Here is the picture -- you will need to blow it up and refer to the main page for a description of the various numbers...

#009 is the pressure regulator

Here's the link and pic with the fuel damper (hard to see it all... but...)

I have to ask the reason for altering the FP??

If you can't determine where do do it, WHY DO IT. Additionally, it does nothing for you other than offsetting the trim tables...

Do you see the upper image (part) with the #9 to the left of the part (and the #16 towards the left-bottom) with the threads at the bottom? That is the "fuel pressure regulator" (there is a locknut and o-ring used to attach it to the other assemblies/parts).

The little nipple (at the top) is vacuum (to control the fuel pressure depending on manifold vacuum) “LITTLE TOP NIPPLE IS VACUUM” == correct

B-4 is the return line that sends the "excess" fuel back to the gas tank. “B-4 IS A RETURN LINE” == correct

As to the rest... I would hate to make an informed guess only to steer you in the wrong direction, but you’re basically correct (as to the “general gasoline flow”).

If you can blow-up the drawing, you can see how the part to the left of the #9 (in the upper image) is the "pressure regulator" and has only three ports (two nipples and a threaded body at the bottom [Part #16 is an o-ring for sealing purposes [as there is a lock nut]).

I also checked the fuel flow diagram and confirmed that the "fuel pressure regulator" only sees three "connections". The fuel coming in to be "regulated" comes from the bottom (see those threads).

I would verify your quote above, but without a careful look under my hood, I don't want to just say its so and miss something. The fuel pulsation damper (a very important item) is not shown in a fashion to make this crystal clear (it ends up in the lower drawing and you would want to make sure that you kept it in the system).

Scalbert is THE MAN (when it comes to fuel trim issues)! He is the person who asked why you wanted to change the fuel regulator. He has probably spent more time watching fuel-trim tables and advance curves than 98% of the population. If you are planning on just adding a fuel pressure regulator to increase the fuel richness, you will probably be disappointed. A number of people have TRIED replacing the regulator with higher pressure ones and have found the fuel trim tables "compensated" for the higher pressure after a week or two.

[b]So, just to be clear, the fuel pressure regulator really does have only three connections (two nipples and threaded opening at the bottom) and the other parts that you are referring to, are NOT considered part of the fuel regulator (you’re probably correct about your guesses [your quote], but please... the "fuel pressure regulator” only has three ports and the other lines you mention are coming from/through other parts that it is connected to). Does this make any sense to you?

BTW, if you are looking at just increasing the FP there is no need to replace the stock FPR. Just tap in after it in the return line and add an additional FPR.

This will allow you to increase pressure over stock but not drop it below...

He wasn't saying that you mispelled something, he was pointing out that you where typing in all uppercase. This typically conveys anger or acts as shouting...

Just FYI...

Oh, and calling someone a d*ckhead reinforces that impression.

I'll sit back and watch this one take off.
