fog lights for 03 CL Type S

Does anybody know where I can purchase HID fog lights for my 03 CL Type S? Do I purchase the 02 fog lamps and change out the bulbs or what? Cost and/or vendor information would be appreciated.

New owner -- good web forum and web site.

Don't buy the '02 light housings .. they are NOT fogs .. and the bulbs are only 5 watts (they are strictly for show). Some people have upgraded the bulbs to higher wattages .. with some failure tho as in melted housings. But I cannot speak to the specifics.

Thanks for advise. I really want something that looks sharp but not aftermarket. Can you suggest a vendor or someone that puts out a good product that looks right on the CL?

I have no suggestions .. I have an 02 (which is waiting for its 3rd tranny) .. with those stupid 5 watt xmas decoration bulbs .. I really wish that the TL-S fogs would fit .. those are nice.

Anyways, I'm not at all familiar with the after-markets .. sorry

That allright.....I appreciate your feedback......I can't believe you have had tranny problems for a 3rd time........what do they tell you after the 2nd time it failed? Are you pursuing the lemon law in your state for your car. It may be worth it.

Just throw some after market ones in its place. Use a dremel if needed to make them fit. Or use existing lense and put a fog behind it

I have found no option's to putting in any fog lights into the 01 and up CL into the factory housings. The best options for looks i have found have been these dual L.E.D lights that plug into the factory location made my P.I.A.A. retail about 25-30 or Polarg M-4 bulbs that will plug in also retail about 10-15. I used the polargs originaly and was happy with the look, but now i have used the P.I.A.A and they look very unique. Still only for show though not functional.

I'm looking into replacing those 5 W lightbulbs for the "driving" lights. I know there's been numerous threads on this but can someone please let me know the exact type bulbs that would work without causing any electrical problems, or housing melting ?
thank you.

The exact bulb that will work for you is a wedge type bulb. The main company that makes the most comonly used bulb is polarg. and the model is the M4. another company that makes a even nicer one is PIAA. Extream L.E.D bulbs. both will not cause any electrical problems because they draw the same if not less electricity from your system. If you have problems finding these bulb's where your at you can order them from me and i'll send them to you. you can reach me at mleong118@sbcglobal.net

If you don't want the "blue/white" look, but just want brighter lights that resemble fogs but with no beam pattern, do what I did.

I got the PIAA 19224's (18w, blue tint) and removed the blue with a rotary tool and the wire wheel tool.

But after doing that, I found the cheapest way to do this is to find 18watt wedge bulbs (same size as PIAAS and M4s), but only $3-4 for a pair at autozone. You have to really LOOK at the bulb to see if it say's "w18w" or not on the glass, because they usually don't print the wattage on the packaging.

I may try the PIAA dual super leds when I get back to the states, but I like the yellow "halogen" look rather than the whitish blue look.

no problems with the 18w that I know of. I tried 25w halogens before and had deformation in the housing "reflective" part.

I don't think anybody's housings has MELTED, i think what they mean is that it starts to deform or burn, but never MELTING like cheese on a hamburger.

Ahhh baloney! The 18w bulbs do not, repeat, do not singe or burn the housing in anyway whatsoever. I've had them in there for 2 and a half years and there is none whatsoever. I even had a light broken by a rock and when I opened the brand new lens and housing from Acura, it had discoloration from the factory. Nothing, zip, zed, nada. Anyone who tells you different just is ill informed. I will bet you $100 that they did not look at the housing before they ever put the bulbs in there.

I agree. I've had the 18w in forever now and they don't do anythign to the housing. The only "spots" i have was when I experimented with 25w halogens...those WILL either "deform" the housings.

After reading many responses, it looks like I will purchase the stock 2002 light housing and internal switch but replace the bulb with either a Polarg or PIAA. Final question: What would look really cool and still be functional - what type of bulb (polary or piaa??)

i'll bet u $500 yer wrong!!!...i've had my 19224's in for 1.5 years, and there's significant discoloration and just recently tiny bubbles...plus i've had a housing replaced from PAA on one side which shows how discolored the old housing was, so i dunno where yer getting the "it was discolored from the factory" from

and it's not the bottom of the housing that's discolored, it's the top of the housing...if u'd like, i'd b MORE than happy to take pics for u tonight

I think I'll get the Polarg M4 which is pretty cheap and it's rated at 5W so they probably won't do anything to the housing. These lights are decorative lights anyway and I don't need them bright.

Hey Scoot! I will bet you that the discoloration you have in the road lamp housing was there from the factory. I replaced mine and the brand new one had more discoloration than the original broken one. I bought it at Park Avenue and opened a brand new one and there it was, "pre-discolored". Somewhere on this massive PC I have pix I took for archives. I swear it was discolored from the factory!.

PS The pig disappeared and I haven't had time to research what happened. I think you guys did something with the site that knocked it out. I still have him somewhere.

To tell you the truth, I really do believe that the discoloration that people are experiencing was already there. The only drawback to these 18W bulbs is that if you do not install them properly and touch the bare glas with your fingers, the bulbs will expand in that spot making them impossible to remove without breaking them.

I always thought the discoloration was generated by the heat of the bulb but if that is so, why do brand new ones from Acura come with discoloration? I'm not kidding, The lens I broke had no discoloration and the new replacement did. Since it is on the underside and can't be seen and the lights are generally useless anyway, Acura didn't care. My Polarg M6's have been in for over 2 years.
