Fog light Bulb super white LED converion project

Fog light Bulb super white LED converion

Hi guys,
Our car use 9006 bulb for the fog light.
I am in the process of converting this bulb into super white LED bulb. What I have done is take this blub and removed the class tube and take the bulb's plastic connector to be used on my LED circuit. I know there are 9006 LED bulb out there on the market but mine is VERY BRIGHT super white light. As a matter fact the light output is 5x whiter than our HID low beam! The secret is that I was able to get high power 8mm super cool white LED from a Korean manufacturer. I used 5 LEDs for each bulb and each LED is rated at 80mA (compare to standard white 5mm LED which is rated at 20mA). I don't have any pictures to show you yet but as soon as I put everything together I will post them for you. I can't wait to see the final installation!

OK guys,
Here is the first version of fog light with super cool white LED bulbs.
I only used three super white LEDs on this one and final version will have 5 super cool white LEDS. http://www.acurainspired.com/gallery...d=768&uuid=112

maybe you should make a comparison with them installed, so that people can compare them with the headlight.

also you might think about doing this for the CL.

excellent job. I've actually got a somewhat similar project lined up. The CL's do no use a 9006, CL's come with a cheesy 5watt bulb. I picked up some 3mm white LED's and I plan on aiming them (about 6 per side) into the housing to give it an effect of a well lite housing. I want it so you do not see the LED itself, just the reflection of it's output.

what part of NC are you in? How did you handle the voltage step down?

I will install on the car and take some pictures. What I did is took the 9006 bulb and converted to super white LED bulb. There is no modification to the fog light housing at all. Just remove the existing 9006 bulb and replace it with this one.

I used 8mm high power cool white LED instead of regular 5mm LED. I had tried the 5mm white LED (9 LEDs per foglight) but they are not bright enough. This 8mm high power white LED is 5x brighter and the beam pattern angle is 50 degrees. I plan to use 5 of them for each foglight. The voltage for the foglight is 14.4V and I put three LEDs in series with 47 ohms (3 Watt) resistor and 100 ohms in series with other two LEDs.
I am from Boston.

Hi,
I just found this thread listed on google, I was doing a search for 9006 LED's. I was hoping to find some premade 9006's LEDs but haven't had any luck. So I think I might try this project for the foglights on my 04 4Runner.

mthuch, are you still happy with the output of the LEDs? Do they seem brighter then the stock 9006?

You wouldn't happen to have some step by step instructions do you

The pictures of the LEDs lit in the housing look really good, and that's what I'm hoping to do with mine.

Thanks
Chris.

the guy you're looking for has been banned from this site. i don't think anyone had much success w/ led driving light bulbs for a cl-s. they weren't bright enough.

you're welcome to start a new thread and ask.
