Can anyone recommend a muffler setup that will add a little sound, but not make the car sound like a ricer? I like the subtle throatyness that the G35s and 350zs put out - is there anything for our cars that will sound similar?

Comptech. It's a deep tone. I think it's the perfect match for a CLS.

Perfect tone yes, subtle no. I think the comptechs can be load at times, but i like it. You can drive it silent, but thats not fun.

Go with Magnaflow. I've heard the Comptech on 3G TL, and it sounds a little more high pitched at higher RPMs. Magnaflow sounds a lot deeper in the lower RPM's and more muscular at higher RPM's. Just my .

And the Magnaflow is a hell of a lot cheaper!

Magnaflow is great, going back to the 40 series muffler being used as a resonator I don't see the big deal since its replacing a resonator and not a muffler, unless I misunderstood that part.

You got it right, the 40 series is replaceing the b-pipe resonator. My RT high flow cat show be in tomorrow. The 40 series should be in this week as well. Hopefully I can have them installed this next weekend. Once I have installed, like i said, I'll be posting up a video.

I have a custom axle back with the flowmaster 60 series and stock tips welded on. I like the sound better than the comptechs.

No custom y-pipe. I wish I did at the time though. Even the new accords have a nicer y-pipe than ours.
Thanks g1underground it's sitting on 18's with a TEIN SS drop.

How much is a shop charging you to make it work with the Type S?

Cool

Ahhhhhh, the 40 series muff just came in an hour ago...looks like both the RT cat and muff will be getting installed tomorrow...

Rpappi...you'll hear the entire setup this weekend.

Imagine this guys and (some) girls, Megan SS headers to RT high flow cat, to 2.5" piping down to the 40 series, more 2.5" piping, then chrome pipes.

Try doing a before and after of some kind, I wanted to see how much of a difference the RT cat alone would make, if its too much trouble then don't worry about it.

Ok, the exhaust is up...and the f'ing thing is LOUD!

Funny thing is, the 40 series muff didn't fit, so I had to go with a different resontor called the "Twister" racing muffler.

So here's what they did...

-Shortened the end of the downpipe and rewelded the bracket because...
-the RT cat's bung was too far down (don't know if I got the right cat, but it's ok, they got it to work. No worries Ex.), but they cut off a small tip off the front end of the cat to shorten the length...
-then they sliced the rear end of the cat and welded it up to a 2.5 pipe down to the "Twister" racing muffler (about 7" long) which had a 2.5" inlet and a 2.25" outlet...
-for some backpressure they used 2.25" in pipe behind the racing muffler to meet up with the original y-pipe...then to the axle back already there..

-and I couldn't be happier...

But holy crap it sounds mean. At idle there is a nice v6 rumble, and at high RPMs, if your behind me, you'll feel the sound waves from the exhaust.

AND for the butt dyno, my car is well smoothed out at the bottom end that was greatly needed. For all you Pee'ers and Type-S guys, the high flow cat is a must!

And like I promised there will be a video posted up tonight when I get off of work or tomorrow morning...stay tuned.

P.S. If anybody wants a 40 series Flowmaster muff, you can take it for $50 bucks shipped. First one pays gets it...no dibs.

but they cut off a small tip off the front end of the cat to shorten the length...

----They also rewelded the bracket at the front of the cat as well so it would bolt right up to the downpipe.-----

I looked under the car when I parked it, let it idle, and I saw the massive amount of heat rising from the pipes. I think I'll go ahead and spray paint the exhaust pipes with high temp paint so there isn't a ton of heat eminating from them.

dude, no offense, but i think your exhaust shop ripped you off. it would have cost about $5 to just extend the o2 wires.

It's cool, cuz I only paid 150 bux which was more like a 300 dollar job. All of the welds are very tasteful.

GM#2... Mang you fuck me up everytime I read your post in the morning...
I know this is off topic, but since you are on the west, you are three hours behind. When I read your post this morning stating you just got your part, it said on my forum that it was around midnight some time...
I was like "what the fuck delivery service does he have?"

Personally I think it sounds closer to my old Mustang than a sporty CL-S. I'm a big fan of the clean sound of Comptech/Neuspeed exhaust, this just isn't my taste, but if you like it that's what counts
