Flooded Engine.... Update

Hi guys and gals. I put up the original topic about 3 weeks ago. I was driving in rain, hit the puddle and the engine stalled...
well, turns out that it was hydrolock, and I ended up to have to replace the engine man, it cost almost $8000 for our type S engine! well insurance covered most of it, but still...

I just got the car back and have been driving it around, it feels sooooooo gooood I've been driving my sister's TL around, and let me tell you, there's a BIG difference between the TL-P and CLS! It's like two different cars Don't worry, I'm not driving the CL hard or anything, I gota do the break in period.

So my questions is this, how long is my 'new' break in period? I have 17000 miles on the car right now, with a brad new engine. Thanks for all of your feedbacks, happy driving, and stay away from puddles!

Chung

Damm, that sucks. I've been wondering what happend to ya...

I would think that you should break the new engine in just like it was a new car, I think it was 1000 miles.

Tell me again, did you have a CAI, or just the stock air intake?

just the regular one. Now I'm thinking of getting the CAI since the resale value is pretty much gone, and i'll be with this car for a while now.

I'm glad all is well.

Would you mind describing just how much water you went through? (Did it come up to the bumper? Higher? Lower? How fast?)

TIA

the water was below the door frame, ie, when I open the door, no was came in, but it was pretty close though. i went through it at maybe 20mph or so. i just got bad luck, cuz everyone infront of me and behind me made it though just fine.

Why does your resale value go down when you stick a brand new engine in it at 17k? I would think that would make it go UP.

OUCH and thanks for the reply...

As JRock mentioned, the resale value seems very low... Did anyone tell you why it's so low?

IMO -- YES! .

Caveats: The bypass (on the CAI) would have to be working properly and installed correctly (high enough). In other words, the bypass wouldn’t help it was sitting right next to the K&N -- behind the bumper.

See SCC test done on an NSX. http://www.aempower.com/by_pass.htm

I can sympathize. Back in 1993, my Ford Probe which was only 5 months old went through the same ordeal. I didn't realize how deep the puddle was till I was in.......On a positive note, I didn't seem to suffer any ill-effects from the incident. I only had 9k on it at the time and got rid of it years later with 120k on the odometer.
