first damn paint chip: advice please
first damn paint chip: advice please
Hi guys,
Yeah a big old semi launched a rock onto my hood and gave me my first paint chip. It's not big but there is a bit more paint around it that wants to flake off. Should I peel off that tiny part and touch up, or should I just touch up the whole area? Also, I have ABP and wonder if I can find an exact match in touch up paint or if I can just get close. Thanks for any advice. Neil

Sorry to hear that. Don't put touch - up paint on the hood of your car. That will make it look worst because it is a horizontal surface and that makes it twice as noticable when your car is clean. You could get the spot repainted by a mobile auto painting guy. I remember I wanted to do the same thing on my Honda and the paint guy adviced me not to because it would'nt blend perfectly (black car) and when the sunlight hit it you could tell (again, on the hood).
So, what do you do?
Option 1: Live with it.
Option 2: Touch it up anyway.
Option 3: Get it spot painted and take the chance.
Option 4: Get the entire hood repainted to ensure the paint will match, which probably isn't worth it.
I'd take my chances with the spot painting, especially if you car is a light color.
