Finished Dash Install of Radar Det and Smartire (PICS)

Having one too many radar detectors stolen by the "smash and grab" method, I chose to install the Bel 975 remote detector. I also decided while I was doing some dash mods, that I would install the Smartire tire pressure monitoring system. I took out the dash tray and put them in the tray slot so I can take them out and put the dash tray back in when I want to trade. I used a matt black finish plexiglass to fill the empty spaces. There wasn't much space left to fill so the minor difference in shade is not noticeable. I am very pleased with how it turned out - what do you think? The Smartire display color is a good match to the dash. The Bel mounting plate is black and the color difference between it and the dash shows some. Does anyone know how to match the dash color? Has anyone painted dash trim to match OEM?

That came out great! I am still thinking of relocating my v1 remote display. I was thinking of the spot you used also, but do you tend to find it is still too low and you have to take your eyes off the road a bit too much to see it?
I was thinking of disassembling the v1 display, and maybe placing it over the buttons for the clock, removable of course so I can get to them twice a year.

For the dash, our dash's are painted!! It is some sort of dull metallic black w/ gold sparkles color. Below it is a dull black plastic. I asked the dealer, but they do not have touch-up bottles in that color.
You could purchase another notepad tray insert and take it apart for the plastic. Or someone else mentioned getting a small peice of the marble trim and cut that up.

Thats a good idea man. My escort 8500 radar was stolen when someone came in my driveway and broke my window and grabbed it. Never leave your detectors out in the open. I learned my lesson.

I just did this today, so I can't say for sure but I think it's high enough for me. I had it under the "not an ash tray" and it was definately too low there.

I checked the dealer and they wanted $80 for another notepad tray - more than I think its worth. I've contaced one guy about buying a piece of marble trim, but he hasn't returned my email. Do you know of anyone that can sell a piece of the marble trim without buying the whole kit?

That is tight! In fact you've inspired me; I replaced the stock stereo with a single DIN deck and that space seems kind of empty, but what a perfect place to add a radar detector.
So putting the detector lower than you typically see them doesn't hurt it's effectiveness does it?

Only the detector display is in dash. The radar sensor is behind the grille, the front lasar sensor is in front of the rear view mirror and the rear lasar sensor is in the third brake light housing. You shouldn't do this if your detector is not designed for remote mounting.
