Finally used the oil boy oil change pump over the weekend, works great

that pump works great. to manage the curvy tubes that still had oil residue in it, i rigged up a stand using 3/4" pvc and a collector bottle. i'll build a real stand (maybe a cart for it all) when i have the time.

i also bought a 5 gal. container to haul the used oil off to recycle. i can do a few oil changes before i make a trip. it only cost six bucks and change at wally mart.

i also picked up some nice compact and lightweight jackstands at pep boys. damn things cost $40.

I just bought mine today and used it too! It also worked like a charm. Can't wait to try it on my tranny fluid, I just bought some Amsoil.

BTW, excellent idea with the used oil container, it was a messy clean-up getting the suction tubes to clear for me.

The tube goes down the opening for the dipstick. Works great. Took me no time to change the oil the last time I did it.

Does it completely remove all the oil? Or should it be expected that some is left behind?

There is a small amount of residual. But nothing significant. I average about an oil change every 2 months. I'll probably have the oil drained once a year.

hmmm... well I need to change my oil pan as the drain bolt is seized up in there, so i can't drain the oil and the only way i could get the oil out to change the pan is with this thing. How much did it cost you. i'd imagine anything is better than $150 in labor + $80 for oil pan and gasket.

anybody think i shouldn't replace my oil pan on my own?

imo, it removes about the same amount of oil that a normal gravity drain would.

this is what is did: after the the pump sucked out most of the oil (pump not full yet), i emptied it and pumped out as much as a could again. i probably got a couple more ounces out at most.

i bought mine at west marine for 42.99 when it was on sale a couple of weeks ago.

they have a variety of them. http://westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/sto...169&storeNum=6

do you have an air compressor? there are some models that work off of one. look up mityvac.com .

you could always bring the car to the dealer for an oil change and hope that they strip the pan threads and perform the repair. kinda messed up, but if you you don't care...

Very little. I actually tested that theory last night by using the oil Boy, then actually draining the oil pan manually. Very little came out, and what did was just oil. Keep in mind that you can (and should when using this) run the car to operating temperature then immediately drain the oil. All of the gook and sediment is still suspended in the oil that your removing.

IMO This is the PERFECT tool for an oil pan with a siezed bolt.
