Finally ticketed for no front plate :(

Had the front plates off for a good 4+ months with no issues, but this morning a trooper with nothing better to do decided to pull me over instead of the beat up chevy that was passing me on the right with a taillight out and opaque black plastic bags acting as "windows" on his driver side and rear. $55 and no points... guess they're going back on now *sigh* CL looks so much better without them.

Got pulled over on a rural highway a few weeks ago.
Cop said I was going 55 in a 45, saw that my insurance paper was expired, and I needed to put on the front plate. Gave me a warning, luckily he did not see that I had just gotten a speeding ticket for 80 in a 70 the day before! I feel jinxed now. My record was prisitine up to 6 months ago.
When I got home I put my new insurance paper in the car and I put the awful front plate and holder on. I hate the plate!

Did you keep your plate in the trunk? Could have tried that "oh it broke off and i'm on my to go get a new mounting bracket" deal.

Worth a shot.

I got a ticket for my front plate being off and in my front window, said it was hit by something driving down the road christmas eve, which it was, took that ticket over the 80 in a 65 I could have gotten, plus double the ticket as it is in NJ and in 65mph zone.

I put my bra on the car and I put it behind the front license plate holder, it looks horrible behind there with the damn pant scuffed up....

that's EXACTLY what I did chap. I even have the marks on the front bumper from where the plate used to be and I told him I got backed up into and the plate fell off. Showed him the plate in the trunk and everything. He didn't care... he had already spent the time to follow me and pull me over so I was getting a ticket no matter what it seemed. sucks.

im sure the cop coincidentally is gonna think you were on the way to go get a bracket. cops have heard every excuse in the book. so u need a happy medium

this is what i wouldve said and have said before.

"officer my plate is in the trunk because im waiting for a bracket from the dealership."

that shows that your not coincidentally going to get a bracket but the cop stopped u in the meantime.

I just took the front plate off my CLS a couple weeks ago, couldn't stand it anymore. My gf thinks I should put it back on, but it looks so much better without it. So I said "no way biatch!"

Anyway, I like UNCTYPE_S's idea. I think I'm gonna :thief: that excuse.

^whether it works or not, u might have a better chance saying that cause its an excuse but not a coicidental excuse when the cop pulls u over.

has worked for me twice already, but it may not work all of the time.

one of my collegues ran his GTI w/out front plates in md for several years before getting a ticket. he was bummed but had to put them on. your only hope is to relocate to pa where front plates don't exist. happy commuting.

They didn't throw in window tint ticket for good measure?

Bored cops

They probably figured if the chevy's owner can't pay for windows, they won't pay tickets.

I drove past a laser trap on Rt. 100 Friday, they had somone in the back of a patrol car and their ride was getting towed.

I've been running with the front license plate since I bought my car. But lately I've been tempted to remove it. I think at least I'll only remove it for club meets where pictures may be taken. And then put it back on afterward.

There is one good thing that the front plate does do. It can protect the front bumper from damage at slow speeds; like someone backing into you or if you pull a little too close to a cement barrier while parking.

The front plate and bracket can also cause damage by scratching the finish on the bumper. I have had mine off for about a year and a half since I noticed it rubbing on the bumper, been pulled over twice, no tickets for anything, and just two weeks ago I got into a accident (got side swipped by a Cavalier ). The cop looked at the front of my car for the plate didn't see it, never said a word and went to the back to get my license plate number.

I'm more just worried about how frequently I'll get this ticket... $55/ea can add up. This is the third time I've been pulled over for it... but first time the cop actually wrote a ticket. Both the other times having my plate in the trunk got me off the hook. One of the cops even said, 'with a ride like this I wouldn't want the front plate on either -- just keep it handy in the trunk'. So I figured that would be enough... guess not.

And ya Bluto, I'm surprised nothing was mentioned about my tint - but I've never had a problem with that thus far *knock on wood*

I have never had any front plate on any of my cars since 1987. The only one I got for no front plate was in 1990 I think. I remember when I got that ticket, I was park inside a private parking lot too.

Have you thought about flipping the front plate? It looks pretty nice like that and you won't get in trouble ...

Here's a pic of my car with the plate flipped:

I agree if your gonna try and use an excuse that would be the way to go. I was just kinda offering up a "general" excuse.

How DO you do it? What's on the rear plate? "LUV COPS" or something ?

I was wondering how a neighbor has escaped hassles with no front plate and Texas plate in back with 02 tag on it. He’s been in Los Angeles for 3-years!

Ticket #2 this morning. This time I had my plate up in the front window. Apparently that's not good enough. The cop came back and hands me the ticket saying "I know "you guys" don't like having a front plate because you think it looks like crap. But the law is more important than appearance. Have a nice day and drive safely".

Game over.

It's $55 per citation. They must be out actively looking for no front plates... cuz I was in a pack of traffic in the middle lane doing the speed limit. He didn't even have his radar on. I really have no choice... maybe I will try putting the bracket on upside down like liqice suggested.

the cop must have road past you and looked through his rearview or side mirrors. That's ridiculous. He must of have been meticulous cause some states don't require a front plate.
