Finally a kill worth posting!
Finally a kill worth posting!
After getting sick of racing Scions TCs,Mazda 6s and Jeep Liberties :eek7: (hey, I was provoked by high school kids, and never posted about any of them), I finally got a good race. :grinyes:
This morning on my way to the gym before work at around 6 am, there is usually absolutely almost no traffic. (Usually these streets are packed, I355 and Route 56 area in Downers Grove, for all the Chicago people)
There was a car on my ass the whole time. I was going 55 in a 50 mph zone and there was just one lane. I didn't recognize the headlights. So once the lane spread into two, he got into the one next to me. There was noone behind us and noone in front of us. We got a red light, I looked over and it was an older guy (probably mid 30s) I knew it was a Lexus, but didn't know which one.
When it turned green he took off pretty fast. I wasn't expecting that so I just followed. Usually, if I'm not prepared to race, I don't play catchup. I was hoping that we'd get another red light and right before he was about to cross the next intersection, it turned red so he slowed down. I turned traction control off but left it in auto. When it turned green, he took pretty quickly off again, chirping his tires. I didn't wanna look stupid in case he didn't go again, so I took off rather slowly, but floored it at abuot 15 mph - where he was about a car ahead. I slowly passed him and by 65 I was a car ahead. We had to slow down though for another red light.
This time, I put it in D1 and I knew it was on. When it turned green, he chirped his tires again, but I gave it just enough throttle not to spin my tires and was right there with him. I pulled a car and a half in first, chirped into second and by 65 I was at least 3 cars ahead of him before I slowed down because of traffic up ahead. The rest of the traffic behind us was way back. By this time, I still had no idea which Lexus it was, but it was pretty quick. It was faster than the IS300 that I raced one time. He caught up looked over and just smiled. Pretty cool guy. He merged into the right lane to get on the highway. That's when I slowed down just to look at which one it was. (I hate not knowing which car I raced, that's why mine is debadged  ) and it took me a while to see the "LS400"

I gotta admit that I didn't know a lot about these cars before, but I respect this one a lot more now. Pretty fast 4 door luxury Sedan.

I keep testing my 0-60 time since I can't go to the track, so it seems like the most legal thing to do. I'm always in the 5.3 - 5.5 range, depending if there is someone with me.

Headers, Icebox springs and shocks. I'm sure with a new stickier tires, I can do it more constantly.
I just use my camera phone and save the clips. Once I get access to a stopwatch, I just time the run. If I knew how to convert these stupid nokia files into usable files, I could upload some of the movies.

If someone can tell me where to upload a couple of movies I took today, I will post them.
Also, the LS400s supposedly go from 0-60 in 6.4 seconds. I've seen a lightly modded one at dragtimes.com run a 14.2 at almost 100 mph.

go to the track and get some ETs and report back.Yeah that's the best I can do. But I'd be glad to go to a track if you know any that are open right now. Come on, I can't be the first one to do that.
Yes UNCTYPES, I work in Oakbrook, so I drive through downers grove pretty much every day. Yeah, I can take you for a spin. Maybe we can test the stock vs headers one.
For anyone else who cares, I uploaded 2 videos which you can view with either the latest quicktime player with plugins, or the "nokia player" It's not the FASTEST 0-60 that I've done, just one that I took last week that was already saved on my phone.
