Finally, a Big Brake kit...maybe.
Finally, a Big Brake kit...maybe.
Hello to everyone on this forum!
I'm a newbie here and this is my first post. I have recently purchased a 2002 Satin Silver CL Type-S and have been lovin’ it! I've been extremely happy with all the modifications I’ve done to the car. Thanks to everyone and all their insights on mods and other issues you’ve made it an easy choice on what works and what doesn’t. It's great to have a forum such as this to be able discuss “Car Stuff”!
The only modification that I can’t seem to get right now, not including the RES and Comptech Supercharger, is a COMPLETE front and rear Big Brake kit.
I've researched Brembo, Baer Claw, Wilwood (ugh) and various other smaller companies and found that nobody is interested in manufacturing a COMPLETE Big Brake kit for the CL or TL. “Not enough enthusiast”, they say.
But there is one, only one company that might be interested. Mov'it, they are the crème de la crème of brakes. Never heard of them… can you say Porsche?
One company, Ultimate Garage, www.ultimategarage.com, out of New Jersey, is sole distributor in this country.
Steve the owner of Ultimate Garage mentioned that if there was enough interest he might be able to persuade the guys at Mov’it to develop one for our cars. I’m guessing that the kit would fit the TL’s as well.
So if anyone is interested in getting a COMPLETE Big Brake kit for their car, I would suggest that as many people as possible contact Steve personally by e-mail, ultgar@earthlink.net or by calling him at (201) 262-0412 to let him know there are enthusiasts out there looking for and wanting this Big Brake kit.
I realize that these kits are expensive, but as they say, “You get what you pay for”.
So please, everyone and everybody, I need your help in spreading the word. And that would include going to other forums as well.

Thanks much and good luck!

why are rear brakes so important to you?
the front brembo kit is quite adequate, trust me I've had it for 2 years...
you could always try AP Racing, there stuff is generally universal with custom mounting hardware for several models...
I have APs on my VW and they are a lot lighter than the brembos with the same size rotors...

I want rears just cuz under the 19's it looks like I don't have any brakes in the back.. lol..
and last i heard... Wilwood has no intention of making us a kit. i wish they would tho. oh please oh please oh please
During my research I found several people complaining about the Wilwoods, including a friend i.e. noise, vibration.
I would steer away from Wilwoods.
You can't beat Mov'its design and looks.

No one is gonna pay the big bucks they are going to charge to make rotors for us...hell you can count the number of people with the Brembos on CLs with one hand...maybe two for the guys with TLs.

I agree with moo.
I am attracted to Wilwood not because they are on the level of Mov'it or Brembos high end range of products for instance...
But Wilwood, IMO, delivers great performing, awesome looking, and very complete systems for economy prices.

Having the brembos is cool... BUT
they are a maintenance nightmare... if you are not prepared for it...
Or if you are rich... it really not a big deal.
But just to let you know the maintenance costs...
Rotors $350 each to replace and can only get them from Brembo
Pads $85 bucks Hawk Street Pads...
Rotors probably only last about 15000 miles before you burn through them....
That's potentially 850 bucks a year. Not including labor.
Then you need to get a rim that clears the caliper...
I bought OZ superleggras... that's 2500...
It's not a cheap proposition...
