Finally... 13s E.T. @ Carlsbad today!!

Guys...

Finally hit a 13s E.T.

Best run 13.964 @ 99.65 mph
60' 2.098
1/8 ET 9.032

I got my NITTO Extreme Drag radials in... the kick ass by the way!!

First pass was 14.201 @ 97.67 (launched too low, the Nitto's grab very well!)
Second pass was 14.139 @ 98.54 (decent launch at 3.5K)
Third pass was 13.964 @ 99.65 (launch at 3.3K)

Decided to come home after that... just got back.

Track conditions were very good. Temperature was 72 degrees and cloudy. I was expecting a tad better 60' times, but the track wasn't upto it today. Maybe if I stayed longer and let the muscle-cars leave more rubber.

Other nice rides out there were an Audi S4, which beat me during my first pass!! He ran a 13.7. There was a new M3 running 13.6's (not stock) and other misc. hondas. Of course the usual plethora of hot-rods were there.

I have the time-slips that can be hosted somewhere if needed. Didn't throw 'em away this time!!

Mods

No... not stock:

Comptech Headers
K&N Drop-in Filter with resonator section removed
Removed the rear-muffler section as I don't have an exhaust
Ran on empty (gas light on)
Removed the spare-tire
The Nittos were mounted on 16" TL rims (225 width).

Hmmm not bad. I think with some colder temps you could dip into the high 13.6's.

Damn good run!

Next time I know you'll get a lower time with some better weather and more practice!

Carlsbad

The crowd wasn't too bad.... I got 3 runs in about an hour and a half. Gates open at 1:00pm, but they don't start running until
2:00pm. It was about 50% imports and 50% hot-rods. I just took some snaps of the time-slip. I put it in my yahoo album site.

I have stock wheels on the back. The fronts had the Nitto's on the 16" TL stocks. They seemed to weigh the same, although that's just by me carrying them, didn't really weigh it on a scale.

I don't think 13.6's are possible without at least another 20-30 hp - which will require a few motor-related mods. It would also require real slicks, I think.

is Carlsbad above sea level?

the reason i ask this is because all the maxima guys who run there always run like 15's and then say they run 14's corrected?

just wondering.. meaning your ET's could possibly be lower at a lower elevated track?

well i guess you would have to answer the first question first

I think Carlsbad is at sea-level. It's Palmdale (LACR - Los Angeles County Raceway) that's at about 3K feet, hence the E.T's need to be corrected.

I don't think the E.T needs any correction for Carlsbad!

Corrected ETs crack me up... they are always way lower than the people "running" them could hope to ever run. I can think of some names but I won't name any.

3 runs in 1.5 hours??? The place was deserted then. Usually you'll get 4 runs if you're there all day.

I'm in San Diego why would I go to NJ on a big event day?? 4 passes is fairly typical for Carlsbad.

Thats not that low of a trap.....He might have trapped slightly higher if he had not run drag radials, but then again his ET might have suffered.

Trap speed

The car needs struggles a bit towards the end of third and
the shift into fourth gear just before the traps - needs some top-end power to maybe get 3-4 mph.

The other thing is weight - this car weighs a lot, so I don't see any time south of maybe 13.9 without some major weight reduction or some major power-addition!

13.6's should be possible in colder temps. If you ran in 40 degree weather your times would/should drop by atleast .2

Cold temps

I agree that with about 30 degree colder temps, the car might make more horsepower, but you have to take into account that the track will not hook up as well when its that frigid! It's a give and take.... so we don't know the ideal condition unless we try it all!

Great run and congrats

As stated last week, I knew someone was going to hit 13's within a month and it happened sooner than expected. I can't wait until the 26th to get back and make some new runs and hope to be in the 13's also.

Runs

Thanks...

It truly depends on the launch and hence the 60' time. My best launch yielded the best E.T. - I can't stress the launch more!

The Nitto's helped... if the track was stickier, it might have helped
even more, I suppose.

Sticky Track

I think I should make it down there during the bracket racing (think the next event is October 20th). Even though I forsee a huge crowd (hence long lines...) it might be worth it for a better E.T. I can't make it to this month's event (my first wedding anniversay is this weekend!), but maybe next time.
