Brakes are a wear and tear item and are not covered under warrenty. However some dealerships are nice enough to fix the rotors one time at no charge since there is a TSB about the brakes.

Your mileage is too high. Brake rotors usually don't last much longer 50k anyways.

Make sure you replace the pads at the same time as the rotors. If not your uneven pads will warp your rotors even faster.

I have 29k on mine and my brakes just started to vibrate when applying pressure. You think they will change those for free?

They should. Depends on the dealership. I had mine done at 32k. Then because of Acura's standard 12month/12,000 mile warranty on repairs they were done again at 42k when they warped a 2nd time.

Just walk in, say "My brake rotors are warped. I know there is a TSB out for this problem. I need my rotors resurfaced or replaced and I need the pads replaced with the less metalic pads as specified in the TSB." If you act like you know what you are talking about you'll get alot farther.

Is there a place where you can view these TSBs?

If your dealer sucks this will get you no where. Didn't do anything for me. I would say since your almost at 50K your not covered & shouldn't be. The guys that have been covered are just lucky. If you were under 20K miles then you have a case. 48K miles is way too much to expect a goodwiil fix. That's all this is TSB or not.

Also don't get ripped at the dealer for this. Go to midus, or a lcoal shop. Or do it yourself with new rotors & pads.

Yeah it is worth a try on the TSB issue. At 30k you might get lucky. At 48k... not likely.

And again, go somewhere else to have them replaced if you can't do it yourself. They'll charge you an arm and a leg at the dealership.

I just took mine to the dealership yesterday with 47k to get some warranty work done. They noticed that my front rotors were warped and volunteered to replace them under warranty without me even asking. All that I had to pay was the $65 for new pads.

You may want to try another dealer in your area if you have one and you will hopefully have better luck there. Otherwise you should consider taking it somewhere other than the dealership to have it done.

I have had the same issues with my rotors. I have had the dealer replace them 3 times...all under warranty, even though I was past the 50K warranty. I'm going in again tonight for the 4th set. I'm now at 75K.

Just complaint until they warranty it. According to Acura Client services there is no fix.

Maybe you'll join the free rotors for life club like me!

they replaced my brake rotors and pads at 30k with no fight. Just explain to them what your problem is and if your under 50k. The pads are not included, but rotors they should replace with no questions asked.

Ive never had rotors warp. Past cars usually resurface 3 or 4 times, then replace them as they start to get thin. Warping should be a defect.

Sure you have an argument...with the Service Manager.

You: But this is what I want.

Them: What are you on crack?

You: But they're warped

Them: And thats still your problem.

Noone warranties brakes except for the really high end cars. First of all like stated above its a normal wear and tear item and too hard to calculate how long they'll last. I've seen brakes go in 10k and I've also seen them go strong passed 100k.

Secondly, its a nice paying job for a technician. A good one can get it all done in under 2 hours and is getting paid for atleast 3 or 4. Brakes are something you should learn yourself though cause you can save a bundle of money. But dont get too hard on yourself if you get it done professionally. 45k on brakes was a decent run... you got your money's worth.

Unlike above though, I disagree with the Warping should be a defect things. Warping is a result of overheating thru aggressive stopping, cheap pads, and a slew of other things. The rotor themselves dont necessarily warp though, they unevenly wear with high and low spots and leave deposits of brake residue in high and low patches. This makes them "warped". Don't think of it like the physical rotor went " 45" record in the heat" on ya.

I think the TSB had the shop measuring the remaining pad life when the rotors came in warped, and if there was enough pad remaining they didn't charge for the rotor work (ie rotors wearing prematurely). at least that's what happened when my rotors warped at 25K.

If you can get them to replace the rotors rather than resurfacing it'd be better...

Common Problem with CLS

I have owned 3 Acura's and one Honda... and never had an issue with warped rotors... till the CLS. I had them replaced three times on my 01 CLS, and my recent acquisition (03 CLS) has had them machined three times... so they are probably about done. The CLS rotors are crap. There is no way that they should warp so easily.

I have picked up a new set of cross drilled rotors, but am unsure what pads to go to. Any recommendations?

Wow lot of feedback, I should have posted this earlier, thanks for the input guys, but I ended up forking out for the rotors and pads, I guess I could have bitched and moned and tried to get the rotors free at least...I honestly don't have the time or the tools to do the breaks myself anyways, so I would have paid for them anyway....yea I got ripped, but you live and you learn.....
