A few questions about the CL Type S

1. Just when did the 5 speed auto hit the market? 2001 when the car first hit the market I assume.
2. Is this transmission based on an older one or is it a clean slate design?
3. Will the driving lights located in the lower front valance from the 2001 or 2002 go into the 2003 with little effort? Since the 03's weren't offered with driving lights. What about the mounts, wire harness, and switchgear?
4. I see others refer to pages of what I think is a shop manual. Where can a person get a shop manual for the 03's?
5. Do you run standard Acura oil filters or aftermarket? My Miata is very sensitive to filter type, it only likes stock, others make the HLA's tick. I know Frams are crap but I would consider a Purolator.
6. I believe all the 2001 on CL's are supposed to use 5w20. My Ford is supposed to also. I broke it in on t he 5w20 untill about 5k then switched to Mobil 1 5W30. Plan to do the same with the CL. What have you all done?

I've been reading up on a lot, I've tried a couple searches but It has died in the middle. Don't know if it's my browser or something else. I will appreciate all answers.

WELCOME TO THE CL FAMILY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let me see if I can help you answer some of your questions!!

1) The 5 speed came out with the car in 2000. Their was no 2000 year CL, so they brought out the 2001 out in early 2000, like May I think.

2) It is a clean slate design as far as I know. No other Honda auto tranny has had 5 speeds or the auto stick shift!!

3) I think a couple of people have tried to do this, but I can't remember for sure!!! Someone else will answer this one for you!!

4) It is called a HELMS manual. It is the same manual the technicians at the dealers use to fix our cars. They are available at their website. Ask Shawn S for the site, I don't have it!!

5) I don't think they are that sensitive. I usually use the Acura one, but I used a Purolator One, or whatever they call their top of the line filter(its metallic blue like my car). Don't worry about the filter too much!!

6) I use Castro Syntec, pure synthetic oil. I use the whatever the owner's manual says to use.

I hope this helps a bit!!!

Give us the stats on your car!!!! Don't be bashful!!!!!

I am sure other people will post more answers to your questions. A lot of people on here know a lot about our cars!!!

Once again, welcome!!!!

you have that many bikes? nice collection of classics! welcome to the board!
oh yeah, the roadlamps go right in, but there is no connection for the lights you have to figure a way to wire them yourself. but don't waste your time! those things dont light up anything!!!

Well, looks like the driving lights aren't worth it, the tranny is ????, I have to try and find a source for a 'HELMS' manual.

I would like a little more feedback on oil and oil filter. I would be inclined at this time to use Mobil 1 5W30 and Purolator filters. I assume you all have reviewed the oil filter analysis pages on the web to determine which filters are crap and which are acceptable.

If anyone could give me a clue on where to find this 'HELMS' manual I would be appreciative.

My web site now includes some basic pics of a stock red CLs with the parchment interior, nothing amazing and no mods. Since it's my wifes car, there probably won't be any mods. She's not to big on that sort of thing.

Thanks

Found it, I think. There is a manual that covers 'CL' for 2001 to 2003. Doesn't say anything about the Type S. I guess I'm to assume it is included though since it is multiple years and there probably aren't that many differences. That's not a bad price, $69.

Thanks

Yup, the new book covers 2001 to 2003 with Manual & Auto Tranny both Base “P” & Type-S.
