Ferrari / M3 / Turbo CLS-6

On my way up to the bay area for Christmas I was cruising up the grapevine and I see some distinctive headlights coming up behind me (very low and wide). Just as I suspected a Ferrari (360 Modena) passes by with a new M3 on its tail. I jumped in behind them and we through the mountains a while. Sorry, there were no official races to report, but I had no trouble keeping up with them. It was a lot of fun. The M3 was actually in my way the whole time... I wanted to play with the Ferrari. Temp was in the mid 30's and the intercooler and turbo were loving it!

nice job!

unless the M3 had major mods, the 360 must not have been pushing it very hard or just a subpar driver.

HLSD >*

Even better when you have nice wide tires and lowered suspension and sways. Ideal setup would be 235/45/17, Tein SS, sways, summer tires. The car handles suprisingly well.

we cant compare the AT CL-S with the 6spd CLS on twisties... the HLSD actually makes a big difference to the LSD that us auto guys have in cornering.... i really felt that bigtime when i test drove a 6spd CL-S. i kinda regret not buying it...

BTW, sounds like it was fun turbo CL-S >*

Mostly agree...

But I think CT springs/sways/strutbar, Koni Yellows, Michelin PS PS2 235/45/18s mounted on some 17 LB forged wheels is even better - and don't forget a 13" Brembo BBK.

Nice!! Dude, you need to go to the dyno and tune it!! You are still using that old fuel/timing map - then again you have probably driven only 1000 miles maybe?!?

those fookers are nuts!!! when the temp is below 50 the m3 is not a very fun car to drive. the rear end likes to lose traction quick and the tires dont like to bite well in cold weather. too much power and no traction= no fun...

it would be very interesting to see a powerful RWD car vs a turbo cl-s would do in a race...

We were going 70-100mph, off and on. The Ferrari sounded cool, it was dark red... the M3 was white and noticeably slower than the Ferrari (took a while to catch back up). I wanted to go around the M but didn't want to be an ass and I don't have much experience driving 90+mph... besides I was filling up his mirrors the whole time so he knew I had him

Not really twisties, more of a 4 lane highway through the mountains. The CL handles good, but not M3/Ferrari good...

No... haven't really had the time. Still not sure it's a problem... Allmotor doesn't seem to have the issue. I think I just don't know how to drive

Yes yes I know. I need (a) a laptop, and (b) a wideband O2. Seems to be running very well nonetheless. Oh I did get some pinging (uphill onramp w/ friend in car)... so I need to pull some timing out (running STOCK timing!). Been turbocharged for a whole ~1800 miles now

Blue, Smitty and I recently picked up the AEM wideband and it looks like a really slick setup. I should have it installed next week. I'll post pics.

It was $405 shipped from www.rpmoutlet.com

Sounds like you had alot of fun! Sucks to be the M3 driver...can't catch up to the Modena and a lowly CL fogging up his rear-view.

I kinda wish my auto CLS was still stock. I'd trade it in and get me a nice 6-spd w/ the intercooled S/C or find someone to build me a turbo... ah well. Maybe I'll wait for the next Acura coupe - w/ AWD, of course.
