Felt good today...
Over the past few weeks I've been riding my bike due to the ugly gas prices we have been having
But today, due to the ugly ass riding weather outside, I decided to fire up the CL.
Sat in the leather seat and buckled myself in. No hard ass motorcycle seat here.... just nice, soft leather bound sport seats.
Check the mirrors, seatbelt... check. Car in first, key in the ignition, depress the clutch. Supinate the forearm to turn the key and the sound of my exhaust helps me notice my car is alive.
WBO says I'm running rich... almost forgot that it is always like that when you cold start. Recheck everything one more time... Slowly ease the clutch out and some gas... off I go.
I warm the car up for about 5 miles and decide to take a canyon detour.
I head up towards the coast and get on a nice empty straight off the onramp... red light.
I haven't "felt" my car in weeks... decide to open her up. no cars around...
wait... wait.. wait... green... rev it to about sub-3K and let the clutch out... tires give a nice chirp and off I go... The CT headers gracefully allow me to reach redline easily... and bam!!! into 2nd... tires chirp... Neuspeed exhaust roaring with redline approaching... slam the shifter into 3rd... tires give a nice squeel.... approaching 90mph... WBO says my car is running perfectly... I get into 4th... off into the triple digits...
100 to 110... 110-120... effortless. The howl of the intake agrees with the presence of the nice cool, summer air... I shut it down at 127...
Ease onto the brakes, the BBK slows the car down without hesitation as a nice sweeping right turn is approaching... time to test the car's suspension...
slow to 60? nope... let's keep it at 95mph... eyes where the car goes... the ZII tires take grip as I feather the throttle... downhill... gaining speed again... 100mph on a never-ending turn...
then I see the light... brake... drop a gear... and slow to a stop.
"That was fun." Make a U-turn and do the same uphill...
She treats me well.
damn, it felt good today...

very nice
i love the feeling of getting back into my car after a while of not driving her. btw what canyon road do you drive around here? I always feel the want to drive some canyons when I stay in Irvine on the weekends instead of going back home to san gabriel...let me know man
Love it! Nice thread NiteQwill! I feel the same way every time I jump in the CL after driving my '76 K5 Blazer. Except, you've got all those nice mods to make it even more enjoyable. I might be just a tad bit jelous, lol!

You're worried about the cost of gas but the tickets you coulda got would pay for a lot of gas. 95 on curves and 127 on any public road is irresponsible IMO.
Maybe I'm in the minority here and being too critical, but I love my 6MT too.

You are too critical. Personally my car has never seen anything over 107mph nor will it on a public road. However, most people here (and I would be willing to bet possibly you as well) have had their car well above the triple digit mark at least once. Ticket or not, I’m sure it was a sweet ride either way. I guess I'm just saying, you shouldn't criticize him for doing something we all have done.

Great story. Cant wait to get my 1g fixed and tuned properly again... I dont think it'll be anything like your story, but its still fun as hell

Nice. I like reading these threads. I feel the same about my car when I take it out on the highways sometime. I drove down to VA a couple weekends ago. It was pure pleasure.

But my daily commute is on a bike
I agree to an extent. But a well-known and well-driven road that I have commuted several times... can't be too uptight. We have all done it once. It is not near any residential or business areas as I am too careful when the lives of others are present. Just an empty, slightly curvy road to nowhere... with visibility well over 1.5 miles.
Edit: But I respect your opinion and view. I would probably do the same to someone else
I'm in a bad mood today.
I've never driven my car over maybe 90 one time briefly and I've gotten 3 highway tickets since I've had my 2 6MTs, each about 10mph over the speed limit.
Another reason to hate Texas. Austin is a great place to live, but Texas outside of Austin is full of rednecks and Bushlovers.
Appreciate your comments, just Be safe. Your story was well written.

I'll 2nd that motion from the last post but also too many trucks and SUV's here in Texas also. That's all I see on my drive into work every morning. Not enough nice CL's here in Dallas like there is in California. You Acura owners that get to drive Mullholland are lucky SOB's. Gotta love L.A.!
Great story.....something mellow and cerebral about it for me.
I use driving for therapy to help relieve stress sometimes and thinking about
through a mountain pass like that makes me
THANKS

The end of Jeffrey past portola. A good one also is Newport coast. I hate Ortega, its very dangerous and the roads suck with gravel. Also the end or portola is quite fun too.

Gotta love the feeling of truly being exhilerated by the vehicle you own. Every day on my way home from school i get the privelage of a nice curvy open road. Definetly a good feeling to hear those headers roar along with the intake and in my case exhaust. Cool thread and i am dreading putting her away for the winter and drivin' the max. Damn salt!!!!!!!
Glad somebody else feels my pain paul. Driving the '97 max to work and school just won't be as exciting ( only has cai and some aesthetics). I can appreciate snow and all but, as i said before, damn that salt!!!!!!!!!
After being away for a few days, and being stuck with big-piece-of-crap "high output" 3.5L Magnum rental (that my Civic DX could have beaten, backwards), I actaully had a similar feeling driving my car two nights ago.
I had forgotten how useless the stock Michelin's are in 1st gear. I also forgot that I can spin all the way through 2nd on a hard shift. And I definitely enjoying being able to row through the gears and use the heating on the seat.
If she were RWD, I'd keep it and supercharge it, I swear I would!
