Factory Navi Installed (lots of pics)

I read lots of posts saying it couldnt be done but i did it, I finally installed the acura factory DVD navigation system. I was going to wait until i had the $320 for the wiring harnesses but ended up making them myself. I still need to work on making the radio mount flusher and cleaner (also plan on putting the extra wood trim around it) but i want to keep the radio on some what of an angle like that because the CD easily clears in all gears. The unit is up and running but the display keeps saying "DVD drive read error (unformated) Please consult dealer." Any ideas what this means, i really want to get it working. Oh i know the "joy stick" is missing, the guy i bought it from neglected to tell me but i am about to order the knob. What do you think? I know i know I need to clean up the screen

Oh i think the problem might be that i need a new DVD since this one has scratches (something else the previous owner neglected to tell me), anyone have one they want to sell (2.0something)?

I had that same problem about "Disc error" or whatever. The tinting place I went to, got some water into the navi I guess and shorted something. No matter how many time I stuck the disc in, it kept saying the Disco error. Acura ended up replacing the display unit. Nice pics by the way!

Sorry guys, imagestation appears to be down Figures just goes along with my luck. The install wasnt too bad the real killer was making the wiring harness.

OH the reason i posted in here because i figured you guys might want to see it and i wanted to know if anyone knew about the navi error. I hope the unit isnt shot. The guy i bought it from on the TL board told me it was in perfect condition. What the heck should i do?

OMG........ i want that

props Pat on the innovation. was it a direct bolt-in, or did you have to do more modification to get the screen inside?

how much did you wind up paying for it?

Parts ran me about 700 and then around 50 for the wiring. Not to bad I just hope i can get this error message fixed It totally stumped the acura dealer and they had every guy in there come out and look just to see the install haha They put a 2.05 disc in for me and nothing worked

if you've got access to a 2nd gen with a known working dvd unit, you could swap them to see if something was missed on install (anti-theft or something?) or if there really is a problem with the dvd unit you bought...

try their dvd unit in your car and try your dvd unit in their car.

I don't have any idea how difficult the swap would be, but that might be a way to rule out some possibilities.

that's a damn impressive install, btw.

Looks very nice. One queston though, and this isn't intended to detract from your awesome install. From reading these forums, it seems like some people here prefer the nav unit for the '03 Accord. Would that fit in the CL? And if so, was the cost differential between the two appreciable enough to go with the Acura model?

Not flaming, just wondering what went into the decision process.

Thanks everyone. I have played around with it more and it seems that the error disappeared after running a cleaning disc thru it but i havent had time to let it sit running to get the signal. i tried this morning but the error came back

I plan on going back to the dealer and seeing if they can swap out my unit and see if it works then. thanks for the suggestion
