F/P and boost.

This has been an on going problem. the car doesnt seem to be running bad or pinging but my FP gauge is reading 38 lbs when the engine is cool @ idle and drops to 30-32 lbs when warmed up @ idle I remember the FP being higher especially at WOT. It would go over 100, now it is going about 98 LBS.

The boost is a diffrent story. no matter how tight i make the belt the boost still goes from 4.5 lbs to 2-3 lbs @WOT, as if the belt were slipping. I also have the hight boost pulley. shouldnt the boost be at least 6 LBS? yesturday I installed the B-pipe and I thought that would help because prior i had a shitty custom exuast on there. how can I get this belt to stay grippy and most of all what am I going to do about this FP. I remember the S/C being a lot quicker for some reason.
something just doesnt seem right.

Thanks guys

The fuel pressure sounds fine at idle when warm. However, if the boost is dropping so will the fuel pressure.

One thing to check is the bypass valve. With the engine running get under the hood and manually blip the throttle while watching the bypass valve on the blower. It should rotate about 90 degree with a quick and serious throttle application.

However, it sounds like belt slippage though. Have you tried changing belts? That may be a start. Also, how are you tightening the belt?

Hey Italia-

How are you doing? With regards to your problem, I'm wondering if the larger catback pipe and the elimination of the resonator "can" (the small muffler directly behind the cat) you've installed has anything to do with it. I know you had a cheap one installed after the initial installation of the blower. Did you have higher boost before the larger diameter exhaust? If you reduce back pressure the front of the engine breaths easier. Anyone have thoughts on this?

Hey Tom, how ya doing. I did have a crappy pipe on there, but now i have the b-pipe which is supposed to be better. no custom stuff. the boost is the same after I put it on. so is the FP. I just dont know what it could be. the boost just isnt pegging at 6 LBS its going to 4.5 the slowly going down as the RPM's climb. I am begining to wonder if it is that custom alluminum tension pulley that MCA made for me. The harmonics are diffferent in the alluminum one then they are in th estock plastic one tha comptech provides. I have the stock one and i'm going to try to put it on to see if there is a difference.

Completely opening the exhaust wouldn't drop the boost this much. I went from almost 8 to 7 PSI when I opened my cut-out. Plus, it shouldn't trail off as the revs climb with the PD blower. I would look to belt slippage.

That's also a variable thrown into the problem. Since you aren't using the factory belt tensioner it could be a problem. What belt are you using? Gatorback? What size?

just got off the phone with comptech. they said to use a gatorback #4040252
it will have more grip and not have to be tightend as much. i guess ill go try that belt. I will also put the stock tension pulley on. hope it works.

yeah, ONLY use Goodyear Gatorback belts... took me 3 days to find one... I paid like 17.00 for it...

If your smart you will pick up 2.. I have an extra belt, just in case.

Hey Dan, I guess those belts are the sticky wicket and need routine adjustment with the HBP. Let us know how it works out. C-Ya

well i went to the auto store and they didnt have any of those goodyear belts. It turns out the the belt that was on there was a goodyear gatorback but I still think its to big. I have to go with the one I had originally on the car. the car worked great then. any way I replaced the alluminum pulley with the stock comptech one an d it is better already the boost isnt droping as much but the FP is still low. I think with that new belt all the problems will be solved I hope. I just remember when I first picked up the car, the boost was pegged at 6 LBS and I didnt even have to floor it for the FP to go to 100 plus LBS. just for the record does anyone know what size belt I should use with the H/B pulley. Thank you all.

You can get the gatorback #4040252 on-line at Autozone.com. They get you on the shipping though.
I stopped by one (Autozone) near my house on Saturday and they had it by Tuesday. ($12.99 +tax)

As mentioned, it's a good idea to carry an extra belt just in case.

I'm assuming you have autometer gauges? Call autometer and speak to the tech department. Ask them what voltage coresponds to what fuel pressure reading. I had a fuel pressure sensor go bad on me. Started out just the same way yours is now. FYI replacement sendors are $100.

Slipping belt and/or a failing FPR which is certainly not unheard of.

Get the boost straightened out and then we can take the next step.

It is all about process of elimination.
