Extrude-Honed/Ported Manifold + Throttle-Body

Guys.

I received the extrude-honed manifold from Mike yesterday. Spent 3 hours porting that sucker.. had to take a LOT of meat off, albeit only at the point where the throttle-body mates to it. It's a chunk of aluminum right until it splits (to both sides).

I didn't include pics as you have already seen the manifold previously and the throttlebody... although not together!

Anyways... car feels MUCH stronger... pretty much only from 5.5K to 7K... but it just wants to go to 8K!! I hit the rev-limiter like all the time at around 7300RPM... its like an added 'surge' after 6K (might also be the effect of the actuator... although what RPM does that open up?).

I think 13.6's are very much in grasp...

Ramanan, glad you're putting the manifold to good use!

Darrin,
First either buy another intake manifold (~$300 new) or find one at a salvage yard (not easily done)
2nd - send the manifold to Extrude Hone. DO NOT SEND IT TO THE EXTRUDE HONE IN CALIFORNIA. Call the PA shop to get the manifold worked on. Be prepared to shell out ~$600.
3rd get a hold of Ramanan and have him port the TB.

I don't think the Extrude Honing by itself gives much power... maybe 2-3 I suppose. However, Mike gave me a good deal, so it was worth it. The air-passage is big now. I also made an 3" aluminum CAI, picture is attached:

Well, it won't fit towards the rear of the motor... the turbo needs an inlet (from both manifolds combined) and an outlet (downpipe) going to the exhaust. I thought about the rear (maybe even underneath) but the bottom of the turbo has to be higher than the top of the oil-pan and another 2" minimum. This is because of the oil-return. You can mount it anywhere, but you'll need another oil-pump for the oil-return which gets VERY expensive... Porsche's do this. Getting the manifold and downpipe to fit properly is tricky...

I usually don't talk too much about how the car feels after mods (other than the turbo), but WHOA... it feels freaking FAST! 4 times out of 5, while flooring it in 1st gear (not dumping it real quick at low RPMS, but flooring continuously), it tears the tires loose when VTEC kicks in.... feels like the turbo! There's still so many bolt-ons to do... like the pulleys (13whp) and I am still running my cat and stock exhaust (removing all that should gain another 8-10whp). Can't wait to put all that stuff in and dyno it!!

VTEC is set at stock... 4900 or 5000 RPM.

The smaller one is stock... the bigger one is a custom billet one.

I'm going to install the Comptech SC kit. but I'd like to try to install an air/water intercooler. I have been thinking it would really help if I relocate the battery to the trunk. Could you take a few minutes and do a short, basic, writeup of your battery relocation. Your experience could be a big help, things not to do, things that worked well. Please?

There's really no trick to it. Find a nice ground on the chassis (in the engine compartment) and the trunk.

Other than that... use very good connectors for all the power wires and use 4-guage wire going to the trunk.

I used the factory battery stand, holders and plastic cover... in the trunk.

Please explain. Did u use the parts from the engine compartment and relocated them to the trunk?

Can we see some pics of the trunk?

There's not that much to it and there are a number of units out there that we could use, it's just a matter of fittment and and finding room in the engine bay. As far as gains go, we are at such a low psi I'm not sure if we'll see much, but as we increase boost it will not only increase the power, but will also help to prevent detonation.

Does it get rid of the Rev limiter (7200RPMs) or the Speed limiter (147mph)?
